Katy Perry appeared to be feeling a little shy as she stepped looking almost unrecognizable in an ’80s tracksuit and dark shades in New York City on Monday.
Her bashful appearance could be down to the fact that the 39-year-old singer has just made a slew of controversial comments lately including her decision to work with Dr. Luke amid his messy legal drama with Kesha.
Katy, 39, also made eyebrow-raising remarks about her Sєx life with husband Orlando Bloom – with whom she shares daughter Daisy Dove, four.
However, the singer – whose pop career has been struggling lately – is now putting all her focus into a big upcoming performance at the 2024 MTV VMAs on Wednesday night.
Sending a message perhaps that she’s still a force to be reckoned with in the pop world, Katy sported a baseball cap with the words ‘music industry’ written across it.
She teamed her athletic look with Nike sneakers, dainty earrings and various gold bangle bracelets.
The GRAMMY winner wore a light makeup look that showcased her natural beauty and rosy lips.
The jacket is listed on Adidas’ website as the ’80s Nylon Archive 3-Stripes Track Top’ and retails for $85 dollars.
The sweats are sold separately and are listed as the ’80s Woven Trackpants’ for $80 dollars.
Katy’s Big Apple outing comes just days ahead of her MTV Video Music Awards performance and Video Vanguard honor.
It was announced in mid-August that the I Kissed a Girl singer would be taking the stage for the awards show on Wednesday September 11.
‘Katy is a musical powerhouse and true pop culture icon,’ said Bruce Gillmer, chief content officer of music at Paramount+ and president of music, music talent, programming and events at Paramount in a statement, per AP.
‘With her game changing creative vision, she has become a global phenomenon and taken over the world’s biggest stages,’ he added.
And she is just days away from dropping her H๏τly anticipated seventh studio album, 143.
The record will include some of her already released singles, Woman’s World and Lifetimes, and is slated to release on September 20.
Both songs ranked poorly on the charts, with the singer reportedly ‘pointing the fingers at everyone but herself,’ DailyMail.com exclusively revealed.
‘Katy is freaking out right now because she is very aware of the feedback that Woman’s World is getting,’ a source told DailyMail.com.
Adding: ‘She is pointing the fingers at everyone but herself, but it is her own fault.’
Last month she opened up about the album during an interview, describing it as ‘dance party and everyone’s invited.’ She also gave further insight into the тιтle saying, ‘It’s called 143. It’s my angel number. It’s my symbol, it’s my sign.’
Woman’s World was billed as an empowering feminist song but was dismissed as hypocritical and unoriginal.
‘A couple years ago, we were going through a little bit of a hard time medically in our family, and it was a little bit scary, and I started seeing 143 in many different ways, not just on the phone,’ she gushed.
She added: ‘I really believe it was my angels, my guides, saying, “I love you. We got you. We’re going to protect you. You’re exactly where you’re meant to be. You’re on the path.”‘
