‘Hopefully I can recover from this’: Olly Murs sparks health concerns as he pulls out of show after just 20 minutes on stage and apologises to crowd

Olly Murs’ sold-out show in Glasgow came to an unexpected halt on Thursday after just 20 minutes.

The former X Factor star, 41, was only able to perform five songs on stage at the Hydro, before announcing: ‘My voice has gone,’

He went on to say: ‘This has never happened to me before but you can hear my voice is going.

‘I want to give you the concert you deserve so I can’t go on. I’m going to come back, but I need to go now.’

The crowd went silent before the lights went up and fans, who paid upwards of £57.55 for tickets, were asked to leave the venue.

It isn’t the first time Olly has cancelled a concert in Glasgow, as he was unable to open for Take That last May, just minutes before showtime.

He later said on his Instagram Stories: ‘Glasgow I’m so sorry I had to walk off and cancel the show. I’ve never done this in 15 years.

‘Most of the time as singers we can kind of get through it if our voice isn’t 100% and I walked out tonight thinking my voice is great. I felt a little bit rundown but I didn’t think I couldn’t do the show or I wouldn’t have come out.

‘As you can probably hear from my voice it just sounded rubbish and it is unfair for you guys who have spent all that money to come and see me, you deserve the best show and me at my best.’

He signed off my saying: ‘I’m so sorry from the bottom of my heart, hopefully I can recover from this.’

One disappointed attendee told the Scottish Sun: ‘We were just getting into it after catching Blue as the support act.

‘He sang five songs, then suddenly stopped. He said he’d figure something out, but before we knew it, we were being told to leave.’

Olly later updated his social media followers, explaining he would be seeing a doctor tonight and would hopefully have an update for fans hoping to attend his weekend shows.

This isn’t the first time this year Olly has been forced to cancel a show due to health issues, as back in February Olly pulled out of his show in Dubai just hours before he was due on stage.

He was scheduled to perform at Bla Bla Dubai, however the star took to Instagram to issue a heartbreaking apology as he revealed he had to pull out due to a throat infection.

The hitmaker penned: ‘To everyone here in Dubai, unfortunately due to doctor’s orders I am having to cancel tonight’s show at Bla-Bla because of a throat infection.

‘I’m so gutted. I look forward to coming back ASAP and will share new date information as soon as I can! Olly x’.

Giving fans an update, Olly looked unwell as he shared a candid selfie alongside the caption: ‘A man with a broken voice. Gutted Dubai, I’ll be back’.

Last week, Olly was met with boos by his own fans as he made a strange admission during a show.

The singer had taken his 15 Years of Hits tour to Liverpool, where he was greeted by a packed out audience ready to belt out his biggest hits.

But the Troublemaker singer turned the atmosphere sour halfway through the performance as he let one of his band members ’embarrᴀss’ him in front of the crowd.

Olly paused the show to tell the crowd: ‘On this part of the show, I have absolutely no idea what is about to appear on that screen,’ pointing to the visualiser behind him.

The pH๏τo that flashed up was one of Olly touching the This Is Anfield sign at Liverpool Football Club’s stadium, prompting a legion of rival Everton supporters in the crowd to start jeering the performer.

With half of the crowd cheering and the other half loud in their disapproval, Olly continued: ‘Of course this will probably get the biggest boo of the night.

‘I am a Manchester United fan.’

The singer then burst into laughter as boos became louder, before joking: ‘Shall I go?’

The rest of the show however went smoothly, with Olly belting out a host of his greatest hits to much fanfare.

The Liverpool Echo reported that at one point, there was a heart-warming moment as he remembered his friend Caroline Flack, who pᴀssed away in 2020.

Olly dedicated his song Dear Darling to Caroline after telling his supporters: ‘I genuinely think about her everyday.

‘I know that feeling of losing someone that you love very much. With this song, I want you to think of those people and sing with me.’

The 15 Years of Hits tour continues on Saturday at the O2 in London before the singer heads to the OVO Arena Wembley on Sunday.
