Fans were left shocked by the the chaotic and peculiar way Tom Cruise ate popcorn ahead of a screening of Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning at London’s BFI IMAX on May 11. 

The man of the moment attended the event where he had earlier stood on the roof of the building as part of a promotional stunt. 

And later, in a video which only emerged on Wednesday, eagle-eyed fans filmed him and noted the very strange way he eats his popcorn. 

A video posted on X of the 62-year-old showed him chaotically scoffing his popcorn one-by-one – even dropping a few over himself. 

It seems popcorn is just as moreish for Tom as it is the rest of us, with the actor indulging in his bag four times during the 14-second clip shared on social media.

And fans certainly noticed the peculiar method, with many taking to the post’s comments section to share their surprise.

They wrote: ‘He wants to shove a handful in his mouth but doesn’t want to look a slob in public, so he just machine guns individual pieces. Legendary move’,

‘Why is it so chaotic’, 

‘Can someone hand him heavier popcorn’,

‘I have got to change the way I eat popcorn’,

Tom also stunned fans at the New York premiere on Sunday as he made an unannounced appearance before taking the time to speak to employees at the venue. 

According to an eyewitness, the humble superstar spent 15 minutes talking to employees at the AMC Lincoln before the movie screening.

Tom appeared to be going all out as he promoted the latest sequel to his blockbuster Mission: Impossible series, taking to the roof of the IMAX buildng

‘Tom Cruise has been talking to the employees at AMC Lincoln Square for 15 minutes now,’ Ryan wrote in his first post, followed by a second snap minutes later that simply read, ‘He’s still going.’ 

Ryan later added some context: ‘So also for anyone wondering: we weren’t supposed to see this. We had already seen the movie so we came for a little fun pre-event thing, then we stayed for the intro, then quietly snuck out and stumbled upon this scene.’

When another X user asked if Tom was ‘recruiting for Scientology,’ given his well-known ties to the organization, Ryan quipped, ‘Yeah, no one signed up while I was there. Though one person did ask if he could tell AMC to pay them more.’

Following the New York appearance, Tom seemed in good spirits in Mexico City on Tuesday as he sported an all-black look for another premiere.

Joining director Christopher McQuarrie on the red carpet, Tom cut a dapper figure in a sharp black suit as he mingled with fans.

But he was again seen without Ana de Armas, 37, with romance buzz first sparked just before Valentine’s Day when the pair were spotted enjoying a private dinner. 

Fuel was added to the fire in April when Ana was seen travelling with Tom in his private helicopter, with exclusive DailyMail pH๏τos capturing the megastar grinning from ear to ear as he flew them into London.

This week, the duo stirred the pot even more — Tom publicly praised Ana’s new action flick Ballerina, and she teased that the two are working on ‘exciting’ projects together.

Naturally, fans were on high alert when the Top Gun legend arrived at Lincoln Center looking suave in a sleek all-black suit — but Ana was nowhere in sight.  

Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning is officially releasing on Friday and will see Tom return as Ethan Hunt for the finale. 

Tom takes on his biggest mission yet, after a tense cliffhanger in the last film saw the spy determined to track down cyber weapon The Enтιтy and learning that his team was betrayed and his ‘secrets compromised.’

The film, which has faced multiple delays, is finally due to hit cinemas on Friday, May 23 2025.
