Molly-Mae Hague reveals insecurities over her ‘stretch marks’ and ‘wide hips’ after giving birth and reflects on ‘unhealthy’ filler obsession which saw her compared to XBOX controller

Molly-Mae Hague reveals insecurities over her ‘stretch marks’ and ‘wide hips’ after giving birth and reflects on ‘unhealthy’ filler obsession which saw her compared to XBOX controller

Molly-Mae Hague has revealed she suffered from body insecurities and a lack of confidence after giving birth to daughter Bambi.

The former Love Island star, 25, talks about the constant pressure she feels to look good and the impact negative comments have on her mental health in the latest instalment of her Prime Video show Behind It All.

She turned down the chance to model in L’Oréal’s Paris Fashion Week show last September over her low self-esteem, admitting she couldn’t face appearing alongside the likes of catwalk stars Kendall Jenner and Cara Delevingne at the event.

And Molly reflects on her younger years, which saw the YouTuber experiment with facial fillers and Botox, saying a viral image of her flaunting an enlarged pout and defined jawline sparked an influx of trolling including being compared to an XBOX controller.

Speaking on Behind It All, Molly says: ‘I think having Bambi made me go on a real journey about my body. I have days where I get up and I don’t feel great.

‘I have a lot of stretch marks, my hips are a lot wider now, every day there is a pressure to look a certain way.

‘What’s hard as well is I see a lot of comments and when you see 100s of people writing negative things about you, constant comments on my appearance and my weight… it can be savage sometimes what people say.’

After attending the L’Oréal showcase as a guest, Molly said she ‘regretted’ not pushing herself out of her comfort zone.

She added: ‘I regret not doing it, I felt a bit jealous. A lot of these women have children who walked the catwalk, and they really own their bodies. When is the cut off point for when you can’t use the baby as an excuse for when you’re not in shape?’

Molly became a mother for the first time in January 2023 when she and boxer Tommy Fury, 26, welcomed their daughter Bambi.

After experiencing natural changes in her body including having ‘wider hips’ and ‘stretch marks’, Molly admits she had to learn to love herself again postpartum.

But Molly’s sister Zoe says the star’s insecurities are deep-rooted and she has suffered with low confidence from a young age.

Zoe says: ‘For as long as I can remember her appearance is something Molly has really struggled with… she had this fame come out of the blue and all these fresh eyes on her.’

From the age of 16, Molly used makeup and facial fillers to alter her appearance and now admits her obsession to ‘look like everybody else’ was ‘unhealthy.’

Molly explains: ‘You think that all the makeup and the filler make you look better but actually it makes you look ten times worse.

‘I was about 16/17 when I started getting filler. It was a slippery slope. People say I looked like an XBOX controller or a Quagmire, but I don’t know what that is.

‘It definitely felt like something that I needed to do to look like everybody else that was on Instagram which was really unhealthy.

‘I look at those pictures and I feel quite sorry for myself. It just spiralled really. I tried to think it looked good, but it really didn’t and then luckily, it was reversible.’

Zoe reveals she and her mother Deborah had to face a real-life troll at Molly’s Beauty Works launch in 2019.

As they were in the toilets at the event, they overheard a celebrity guest criticise Molly’s face and the amount of filler she had in her cheeks and lips.

Recalling the shocking moment, Zoe said: ‘At her Beauty Works event, my mum and I were in the toilets and someone else famous was in there talking about her and how bad her face looked and how much work she had done to her face.

‘And then me and my mum walked out and the person was a bit taken back we had listened to the whole conversation. I completely agree with them that she did look silly and had far too much filler in her face. I must have said to her at some point, you need to sort this out.’
