Escape To The Country buyers from America were left baffled by the price of a home in Cheshire on Wednesday’s show. 

Married couple Grace and Joe were looking to make the move from Miami to Cheshire and asked presenter Alistair Appleton for help.

Grace was originally from Manchester but had spent the last 25 years in Miami.

They had a budget of £800,000 for a modern, detached abode in the UK near to Manchester city centre.

However, when Alistair took the pair around one of the properties, they were shocked by the price tag.

The four bedroom chalet-style home had a large kitchen diner area and a spacious garden.

They had a budget of £800,000 for a modern, detached abode in the UK near to Manchester city centre

However, when Alistair took the pair around one of the properties, they were shocked by the price tag

‘What do you think the price tag on this one is?’ Alistair asked the couple.

‘I would go £720,000,’ Grace replied.

While Joe went for a slightly lower £690,000 estimate.

Alistair revealed: ‘Here’s maybe a little curve ball, because this is on for offers over £800,000.’

Grace put her hand over her mouth in shock while Joe swung his head back and said, ‘Okay’.

‘You’re kidding,’ Grace exclaimed, visibly taken aback.

Alistair explained, ‘Cheshire is actually a very desirable area, it’s not close to Manchester but its actually closer to Chester.’

He commented: ‘The price tag of this detached chalet style house has surprised Grace and Joe but it is right on the nose of their budget.’ 

‘It must be quite a shock to the system, UK house prices and UK house sizes,’ Alistair added. 

In the end, the couple didn’t put an offer in for any of the properties on the show but shared they intended to return to the area to look again.

It comes after buyers Neil and Lesley asked presenter Briony May Williams for help finding their dream home in the Suffolk countryside after viewing 1,000 houses themselves online with no luck.

She revealed the couple had one thing in particular that needed to be considered in the property search. 

The presenter said: ‘At 6ft 7′, Neil has one crucial requirement.’

‘We like the character of a house but we’ve got to be careful about the ceilings because of me and just space to move and to breathe,’ Neil shared.
