Lewis Hamilton has shared an emotional post as he expressed his graтιтude after acting as one of the co-chairs for this year’s Met Gala. 

The British Formula One star, 40, switched out of his sharp white suit and matching beret in a more casual navy suit as he headed to Richard Akiva’s afterparty at Casa Cipriani on Monday evening. 

However before partying the night away the sports star took to Instagram as he reflected on this year’s theme and what it meant to him as he wrote: ‘Now we’re seen’.

This year’s theme was ‘Superfine: Tailoring Black Style,’ inspired by Monica Miller’s work, which includes her book Fashion: Black Dandyism and the Styling of Black Diasporic Idenтιтy. 

In a lengthy post Lewis penned: ‘It’s hard to put into words what it means to co-chair this year’s Met. 

‘This year’s theme speaks to royalty, spirituality, and the sacred power of adornment. Materials like ivory and cowrie aren’t just beautiful—they carry ancestral memory. They are markers of idenтιтy, protection, and reverence.’

He continued: ‘I’m deeply grateful to the Costume Insтιтute at The Met, to Grace Wales Bonner, to the incredible co-chairs, and to everyone who continues to honor the legacy of the Black Dandy. 

‘We’ve always been here. We’ve always been fly. And now, we’re seen.’

Lewis put on a dapper display in a sharp white double-breasted suit and a matching beret as he posed up a storm on the blue carpet.

The star was dressed in an eye catching white look adorned with boucle detailing, teamed with a matching beret with gold embellishment. 

The Ferrari driver accessorised with a number of chunky rings and donned a pair of diamond stud earrings. 

Taking to Instagram Lewis also gave a special thanks to Wales Bonner designer Grace as he began: ‘From the moment I heard the theme of this year’s Met Gala, I knew I wanted to work with Grace @walesbonner.’

‘This look has taken months of research and development. Every detail has been deeply considered—there’s a lot of emotion and meaning woven into this. 

‘This is more than a suit, this is ancestral history. Stylish, spiritual, and sharp. Thank you, Grace.’

The annual event orchestrated by Vogue’s editor-in-chief, Anna Wintour, celebrates the Costume Insтιтute’s spring exhibition, which this year centres around the political and aesthetic constructs of Black dandyism.

The showcase, Superfine: Tailoring Black Style, opens to the public on May 10 until October 26. 

It is based on Monica L. Miller’s 2009 book Slaves to Fashion: Black Dandyism and the Styling of Black Diasporic Idenтιтy.

The theme ‘illustrates how Black people transformed from being enslaved and stylized as luxury items, acquired like any other signifier of wealth and status, to autonomous self-fashioning individuals who are global trendsetters’.

Lewis was joined by fellow co-chairs actor Colman Domingo, rapper A$AP Rocky and musician, record producer and Louis Vuitton men’s creative director Pharrell Williams. 

American basketball player LeBron James was also acting as honorary chair. However he couldn’t attend the event due to a knee injury. 

As this year’s honorary chair, the NBA’s all-time leading scorer shared that his wife, Savannah James, will attend in his place.

‘Unfortunately because of my knee injury I sustained at the end of the season I won’t be able to attend the Met Gala in NY tonight as so many people have been asking and congratulating me on!’ James, 40, wrote on X, just hours before the Met Gala red carpet event.
