She had an incredible start to 2025 after winning at both the Golden Globes and the SAG awards for her critically-acclaimed performance in The Substance. 

However despite her recent successes Demi Moore appeared to miss the mark at this year’s Met Gala on Monday night.

The actress, 62, divided opinions with an optical illusion dress which was supposed to resemble a neck tie to fit in with this year’s theme Superfine: Tailoring Black Style. 

The star wore a beaded, striped black and white gown with puffed sleeves and a dramatic accent over her head. 

The over the top halo-like accessory was supposed to be the neck of the tie, with the train of the dress the main body. 

Scraping her dark locks back in a тιԍнт bun, she accessorised the look with dangling diamond earrings and matching cuff bangles.

However her look didn’t quite translate as fans took to social media as they expressed how the star had missed the mark.  

Explaining the look one fan took to Twitter as they shared a sketch of the dress and penned: ‘I didn’t love Demi Moore ‘s Met gala look until I saw the sketch & realized it is a huge neck tie. now I do love.’

Why she wearing a fence???’; ‘The beading is awful’; ‘Demi i love you but what is this’; ‘Tie reference, great. Execution, meeh.’

Another joked: ‘I wonder can that dress pick up cable’.

However others appreciated the artistic look as they commented: ‘MOTHER’; ‘she looks so good’; 

‘she keeps killing it with these looks. she is showing zendaya how its done. cause this is not just a suit. Its art.’;

‘Audrey Hepburn-esque she’s beauty, she’s grace’; ‘The most beautiful woman alive The Queen in black’.

Last month Demi was announced as one of Time100’s Most Influential People – alongside other stars such as Serena Williams, Blake Lively and Ed Sheeran.

While talking to the outlet, she reflected on her character of Elizabeth Sparkle in The Substance – which earned her an Oscar nod for Best Actress – as well as age. 

‘There is a really interesting aspect to redefining how we see women in their 60s -what that really means, and the limitations that have been imposed upon us societally, but even more importantly, what we’ve imposed on ourselves.’ 

The Ghost actress continued, ‘In fact, this is an incredibly powerful, exciting, and alive time.’

Demi also opened up about her Oscars loss after she was narrowly pipped to the post by Anora star Mikey Madison. 

The star explained: ‘I really had the pleasure of getting to know Mikey Madison and think that she did an incredible performance. 

‘And really, it’s an odd thing for there to be a compeтιтion anyway. But if I had won, it would’ve been a completion to what had started.’

When the topic came up about whether she could achieve an Oscars win – Demi simply shared: ‘That would be nice.’ 

Demi later expressed, ‘I can’t say I would be mad at it. The question is should I have won is really maybe certainly not the perspective of how I hold it because I didn’t, and I really do subscribe to this idea that everything in life is happening for me, not to me.  

‘When I look at it through that lens, it allows me to step back and say, “What is this trying to give me?” And in that moment there was a lot was being projected that I would win, and so of course there’s disappointment.’
