James donned a black tux over a matching plain T-shirt along with a pair of smart shoes and a set of glᴀsses. 

His wife, 48-year-old Julia Carey, put on a more colourful display in a vibrant red dress which demanded attention. 

The television producer, who tied the knot with James in 2012, looked glamorous in the long dress which flowed down to her ankles.

The British couple were in the company of a plethora of A-listers at the New York dinner on Sunday evening, which took place on the eve of the Met Gala. 

Those in attendance included A$AP Rocky and his superstar wife Rihanna, Happy singer Pharrell Williams and sporting great Serena Williams. 

Rocky, 36, and Rihanna, 37, looked as stylish as ever, with the rapper sporting a baggy black suit coupled with some gold-tinged Ray-Bans sunglᴀsses. The Sundress hitmaker recently signed a deal to become the company’s creative director. 

While Rihanna teamed a red shirt with her eye-catching red lipstick, before completing her look with a brown blazer and a pair of loose black trousers. 

Serena Williams sported a jaw-dropping all-white dress for the occasion, which she teamed with a glamorous gold bag and a pair of black heels.  

The biggest night on the fashion calendar will go ahead on Monday night, with this year’s theme announced as ‘Superfine: Tailoring Black Style’ – based on Monica L. Miller’s 2009 book Slaves to Fashion: Black Dandyism and the Styling of Black Diasporic Idenтιтy.
