Grand Designs viewers ‘change the channel’ as they share same complaint about latest episode – fuming that Channel 4 has ‘made a mistake’

Grand Designs viewers ‘changed the channel’ and shared the same complaint about the latest episode of the property series.

An instalment of the Channel 4 show on Tuesday evening saw presenter Kevin McCloud revisit Graeme and Melanie.

The couple had attempted to transform a twin garage plot in Hackney they bought for £275,000 into a ‘modernist bright red design’ home for themselves and their two teenage daughters.

With a maximum budget of £450,000, they hoped to complete the project within 12 months.

Kevin caught up with the couple 18 months after the initial visit and saw the finished product.

However, some viewers were frustrated when they realised that the episode had already aired and was a repeat.

The instalment, called Hackney Revisit 2025, first hit screens just a couple of weeks ago on April 16.

Many took to social media to share their complaints and posted on X: ‘Why are we getting repeats midway through a new series?’

‘Wasn’t this on last week?? #granddesigns.’

‘@granddesigns @Channel4 I think you’ve made a mistake – you’re showing the same #granddesigns episode you showed the week before last.’

‘Oh I’ve seen this one. I’m sure it was on not long ago. #GrandDesigns.’

‘I don’t know why they have to repeat them so often.’

‘We thought exactly the same… @granddesigns changed channels now.’

It comes after Grand Designs viewers were left astonished by the ‘crazy’ amount it cost to complete an elderly woman’s new home.

During a previous episode of the Channel 4 show, Kathryn attempted to build a modern and accessible home on the same street in Barnet, north London, where she’s lived for the past 60 years.

With a budget of £600,000 drawn from a combination of savings and her son Gordon selling his home, Kathryn wanted to create a ‘facsimile’ of her beloved old home, but with modern features.

Returning at the end of the episode to view the final result, host Kevin dubbed her new build ‘glorious’ and said it looked like her old home’s ‘long lost sister’.

But viewers were astonished when Gordon admitted the project had gone significantly overbudget, estimating that the total spend lay somewhere between £800,000 and £900,000.

This meant, at worse, they had spent £300,000 more than planned.

Grand Designs airs on Channel 4 and is available to stream on Channel4.com
