Escape To The Country host snaps ‘are you for real?!’ as she locks horns with couple with ‘biggest wish list in the show’s history’

A host on Escape To The Country snapped ‘are you for real?!’ at a couple with the ‘biggest wish list in the show’s history’.

Married couple Steve and Mark had lived in Winsford, Cheshire for eight years and wanted to make the move to Cumbria.

Presenter Denise Nurse was given the job of finding them their dream home in the ‘their favourite holiday spots’.

The pair explained what they hoped to find in their new abode and Mark stressed: ‘We need plenty of space in our new house for our fancy dress things because we have a Eurovision party every year.’

In addition to space for party supplies, they hoped to have a spacious country kitchen, amongst other features.

‘As well as all that, they’re hoping their budget of £380,000 will also supply three bedrooms, parking for at least two cars, an art room for Steve, a garden to fit a grape vine as well as chickens, dogs, and even an alpaca or two,’ Denise explained.

‘To top it off, they’d like to be near a train station.’

The host revealed the list of requirements was ‘bigger than anything I’ve ever seen on Escape’.

When Denise met with Steve and Mark, she jokingly pulled out a long, paper list of all of their wants and needs.

‘Right you two, before we get started, I need to get to the bottom of something, this wish list,’ she quipped.

The couple looked on as Denise began to unravel the list and read: ‘Three bedrooms, want character, but also want light and airy, no pokey windows, spacious interior, social kitchen, kitchen big enough for island or butcher block.

‘Space to host Eurovision parties, hold on, space to store Eurovision costumes, we’re getting very specific now.

‘Space for Steve’s car, space for Mark’s car, access to a train station, access to a village or a town but not in the centre of a village or a town, of course!

‘Close to a pub, close to a second pub in case the first pub is closed, come on you two! Have you thought of everything?’

The couple laughed and said: ‘We’re quite sociable characters, you know!’

‘A post office nearby and an alpaca,’ she added before swiping, ‘Are you for real? I love big dreams, but this is quite a list.’

Steve and Mark joked: ‘There seems to be space there if you want to write anything else on!’

By the end of the episode however, the couple were more willing to relax their list of requirements.

‘You did give me a mighty list to start with, but I don’t think we need it anymore,’ Denise said.

They agreed and Steve explained: ‘Absolutely right. We thought when this process started, we had this extensive list because that’s what was in our minds were the things we felt we needed, but we don’t need the two pubs and the post office.’

‘All we needed was the feeling that we’d found our next home really,’ Mark added.

The couple loved the mystery house Denise presented to them and agreed ‘it felt like home’.

They thanked Denise for her help and said they would be taking another look at the house and explore the local area.

Escape To The Country airs on BBC One and is available to stream on iPlayer.
