Tasha Ghouri has admitted that she is enjoying ‘pure silence’ as she revealed she has taken her cochlear implant out after feeling ‘exhausted’ by lip-reading.
The Strictly star, 26, who was born deaf and received her cochlear implant when she was five years old, made history as the first-ever deaf contestant on Love Island in 2022.
She now uses her platform to create awareness of the day-to-day challenges faced by people with hearing loss.
Taking to Instagram on Wednesday, Tasha, who recently split from boyfriend Andrew Le Page, candidly opened up about taking her hearing aid out and embracing her disability.
Alongside a makeup free selfie, she penned: ‘Hey everyone a lil bit of reality away from my glam self at the moment! Right now as I’m typing this my cochlear implant is out and I’m enjoying the pure silence.
‘The lip reading, the concentration of listening to people’s voices, I’m exhausted by the end of the day.

‘I’ve learned that’s also okay, it’s okay to feel down and have times like this to yourself to recharge, but sometimes I feel guilty for feeling exhausted, I can’t explain it? It’s like sometimes I feel like I’m not doing enough?’
She continued: ‘Sometimes I forget I’m only just a 26 year old girl trying to figure out her life along the way!
‘Sometimes we put so much pressure on ourselves to be perfect all the time; when there’s no such thing as perfect.
‘Even to this day I’m always comparing myself to others (sometimes I need to take my own advice!)
‘To anyone out there figuring it all out, you’ve got this and you’re enough. I just wanted to share some reality because it may look like I’ve always got myself together 24/7 but that’s not always the case, life is full of ups and downs with many obstacles thrown your way.
‘I always say they come your way for you to overcome them, which makes you stronger and more resilient.
‘It’s about how you bounce back that counts. We need to be kinder to one another and to ourselves! Love T.’
It comes after Tasha opened up on the ‘silly’ mistake she made amid her split from Andrew, 30.

The couple called it quits earlier this year after falling in love on Love Island back in 2022.
In a new interview in the wake of the ‘heartbreaking’ break-up, Tasha told of her huge regret at creating a Raya dating profile immediately after the split which reportedly left her ex ‘blindsided’, with the beauty deleting it very soon after.
She told The Sun: ‘I think at the time, I made a silly mistake. I did it way too soon. It was just a heat-of-the-moment kind of situation. Everyone makes mistakes. And in that situation, I did and I own up to that.
‘Unfortunately, that’s something I just have to put my hands up and say: ‘Tasha, it was way too soon.’ It is what it is. I can’t turn back time, but I’ve learned from that.’
Meanwhile, the blonde beauty reflected on the ’emotional’ break-up with Andrew as she revealed the real reason for the split.
She explained: ‘It is hard. Any break-up is hard. I spent so much time with Andrew. We were together for two-and-a-half years. We had a house. We got our dog Luna together in 2023. It was heartbreaking. But sometimes you just grow apart, and that’s what happened.’
Tasha added that the couple ‘didn’t end badly at all’ and are in fact ‘still in touch’ as they have to communicate about their shared dog Luna, who they ‘co-parent’.
She went on to say how much she still ‘cares’ about Andrew but acknowledged that the two are now on ‘different paths’ in their lives.

The pair’s split has caused much chatter on social media, with the couple moving out of their shared home – Tasha relocated to her own pad in London while Andrew moved back to his family abode in Guernsey.
Tasha admitted that navigating a break-up in the public eye has been ‘difficult’ but defiantly remarked that only Andrew and herself ‘know what happened between us’, adding that they are ‘private people’.

And after confessing her mistake for setting up a dating profile so soon, Tasha insisted that she’s ‘absolutely not’ ready to start dating anytime soon, insisting that at this time she’s simply concentrating on herself and her career.
Earlier in March, Tasha broke her silence on their split as she hit back at trolls sending her ‘horrible comments’ accusing her of ‘taking’ dog Luna from Andrew.
The dancer explained as Andrew has moved back home to Guernsey, she is looking after Luna until he returns to the UK.
Taking to Snapchat, the star responded to a comment which read: ‘Really hopes Andrew gets to see Luna too’.
Tasha wrote: ‘Since there’s so many horrible messages I’ve got about taking Luna off Andrew – first off, she is our dog who we got together.
‘He is in Guernsey & decided to leave Luna here with me as he couldn’t take her, it wasn’t ideal. When he’s found a place back in the UK, we will be working out a way for both of us to see her.’
The Strictly Come Dancing star and the estate agent ended their relationship earlier this year, after falling in love on Love Island in 2022
She continued: ‘I didn’t want to comment on this but when I’m getting messages saying I’m horrible person, scum, etc. I have to put my foot down.’
Addressing the split she continued: ‘No-one knows what went on in our relationship behind closed doors. Don’t believe every headline you read in the press.
‘Break-ups happen in life. Just because ours is in the ‘public eye’ doesn’t make it any different.’
Elsewhere, Andrew recently sparked concern among his fans as he shared a ‘sad-looking’ snap of himself celebrating his 30th birthday abroad just weeks after he split from Tasha.
The pair moved in with each other just two months after leaving the Love Island villa and went on to buy their first house together in February last year.
HOW DOES A TRADITIONAL COCHLEAR IMPLANT WORK?
Cochlear implants are small hearing devices fitted under the skin behind the ear during surgery.
They have an external sound processor and internal parts, including a receiver coil, an electronics package and a long wire with electrodes on it (an electrode array).
The external processor takes in sound, analyses it and then converts it to signals that are transmitted across the skin to an internal receiver-stimulator, which sends the signals along the electrode array into a part of the inner ear called the cochlea.
The signal is then sent to the brain along the hearing nerve as normal.
This means cochlear implants are only suitable for people whose hearing nerves are functioning normally.
The implants cannot restore normal hearing but they can give a deaf person a good representation of sounds, helping them understand speech.
Whereas hearing aids amplify sound so they can be detected by damaged ears, cochlear implants bypᴀss damaged parts of the ear and directly stimulate the auditory nerve.
Signals generated by the implant are sent via the auditory nerve to the brain, which recognizes the signals as sound.
Hearing through an implant is different from normal hearing and takes time to get used to it.
It allows people to recognize warning signals, understand their environment and enjoy conversations with people.
If a cochlear implant is recommended, it will be inserted into the ear (or both ears) during an operation and switched on a few weeks later.
