Christine Brown spoke about the influence her spouse Kody Brown exerted on his spouses – even down to the clothes and makeup they wore – on Sunday’s midseason premiere of the TLC’s Sister Wives.

Turns out Kody was like a modern-day Hugh Hefner; the publisher demanded his Playboy bunny girlfriends were blonde, slender and dressed Sєxy. 

Kody, 56, heavily exerted his influence on his spouses, Christine said, noting that she was ‘constantly insecure’ in his presence – and that it was ‘no wonder’ considering how he acted.

Kody, who follows a fundamentalist version of Mormonism, also has 16 children with his three former wives—Christine, 53, Janelle, 55, and Meri, 54 – with whom he was once simultaneously married.

Christine’s spouse David Woolley dubbed Kody as ‘really shallow’ in how he treated her as he ᴀssisted his spouse in aiding the North Carolina relocation her one-time Sister Wife Janelle was making to live closer to her daughter, Madison ‘Maddie’ Brush. 

Christine explained in detail the aesthetic preferences Kody emphasized when it came to his former spouses.

‘He liked makeup – it was like, you had to always, always look nice,’ she said.

Christine said that even outdoor outings had Kody calling for glamorous looks and ensembles.

‘We’d go camping and Janelle and I would be sitting there busting our ʙuттs getting breakfast made, cleaning up the mess,’ she said. ‘And honestly, Robyn would be doing her makeup forever.

‘And doing our kid’s hair and doing her hair and making sure everybody looked good.’

Christine added that Kody ‘would sit there and praise how they looked when we’d been sweating and slaving over the freaking food and cleaning up the campsite.

She noted that it was ‘probably the reason why [she] hated camping so bad.’

Christine said ‘so many times in my marriage,’ there were uncomfortable incidents as such.

Janelle noted on the episode that ‘Christine was very upset about the whole [issue in which] Robyn was off doing her makeup, whatever.’

Janelle said of the incident: ‘I was just like, yes, it’s irritating, but I’m going to still have fun here.’

Christine said that even outdoor outings had Kody calling for glamorous looks and ensembles 

Robyn, speaking in a confessional, recalled of the camping outing: ‘The one time we went camping, I was six months pregnant and I got sick a lot.’

‘I spent the night barfing my guts up outside my tent on my hands and knees. And then, you know, Janelle and Christine were making breakfast and I was just trying to hurry and get ready for the day.’

Kody last year said admitted he ‘wouldn’t be interested’ in welcoming another sister wife into the family after his splits from wives Meri, Janelle and Christine  within a span of 14 months. 

Christine – who has gone on to marry Woolley – announced she and Kody were splitting in November of 2021. 

She said at the time in an Instagram statement: ‘After more than 25 years together, Kody and I have grown apart and I have made the difficult decision to leave. 

‘We will continue to be a strong presence in each other’s lives as we parent our beautiful children and support our wonderful family. At this time, we ask for your grace and kindness as we navigate through this stage within our family.’

Janelle’s split from Kody was revealed in late 2022 during the Sister Wives: One on One special by Kody.

‘I’m separated from Janelle and I’m divorced from Christine,’ he said. ‘Janelle has made it pretty clear to me that she’s enjoying her life without me.’

In 2022, Meri (pictured) also revealed she was parting ways with Kody after more than three decades together.

Janelle confirmed they had ‘been separated for several months’ as she ‘really became sort of indifferent’ to the marriage. 

‘It wasn’t heartbreaking for me like it was for Christine; it was just kind of like, I just mourned that that life was gone,’ she said. ‘We had this great run.’

In 2022, Meri also revealed she was parting ways with Kody after more than three decades together.

The former pair said in joint statement in January, ‘After more than a decade of working on our relationship in our own unique ways, we have made the decision to permanently terminate our marriage relationship.

‘During this process, we are committed to kindness and respect toward each other and to all members of our family, and we are also committed to the continued healing of any and all relationships within the family so that we can move forward with forgiveness, grace, and love.’
