Joe Lycett hits back at dad-shamers as he insists he’s ‘in love with parenthood’ and gushes over his ‘beautiful’ son on ITV’s Lorraine

Joe Lycett has hit back at dad-shamers as he gushed over his ‘beautiful’ son on Tuesday’s instalment of Lorraine.

The comedian, 36, appeared on the ITV show to talk about his new show Joey Lycett: Putting Birmingham On The Map.

But chat soon turned to his baby boy, who shocked fans when he announced his arrival back in October last year.

Lorraine said: ‘Congratulations, you’re a daddy! Congratulations for that. Absolutely fantastic.

Joe replied: ‘I’m surprised I’ve strung a sentence together because I’m so under slept.’

He added: ‘It’s so beautiful, the whole thing. It’s very hard to not be cliché when you talk about parenthood.

‘Everything everyone says about it is exactly right.

‘It’s sort of everything, maddening, beautiful.

‘I’m having a lovely time with it. I’m really in love with it. It’s great.’

They then shared a sweet snap of the funnyman holding his newborn on the screen behind them as they chatted, to which he shouted: ‘He’s not a potato!

‘That’s what everybody said on Instagram. “The neck, you’re not holding the neck right!”

‘The amount of people that tell me how to parent…’

Joe shares his son with his mystery partner, who is also known as ‘Denise’.

It comes after the star made a rare comment about parenthood earlier this month.

While Joe usually keeps his private life under-wraps, he did reveal to the Radio Times that he was ‘loving’ being a dad.

He shared: ‘I love it.

‘I’m in a very happy, golden era of my life right now.’

The announcement was a huge shock to fans and many thought that it may have been a prank.

The MailOnline confirmed shortly after that the baby was real.

Joe also spoke out in detail about his first weeks of fatherhood, admitting he spent them ‘crying.’

He explained: ‘I’ve done a lot of, I mean less so now, but the first sort of two weeks.

‘I did a lot of crying because I did a lot of nostalgia for the future and imagined what he would be like when he was 20 and then worried about him when he’s an old man and I can’t be there for him.’

Speaking on the Parenting Hell podcast, Joe also revealed his newborn son has sparked an unlikely new obsession.

He says: ‘The one thing that has surprised me is that I’ve got really into sport, that wasn’t on the bingo card.

‘I was in the States earlier this year and basketball was on in the bar I was in and the games are all on between midnight and 5am, so when you’re up doing the feed, there’s something live happening.

‘You sort of feel like the world is happening even though you’re up in the middle of the night.

‘So I’ve become a fan of the Cleveland Cavaliers.’

He added: ‘They weren’t doing well but they’re winning the league now since I’ve become a fan. They’re unbeaten in 15 games. I’m mad on the stats, I know all the players’ names.’

Lorraine airs weekdays from 9am on ITV1 and is available to stream on ITVX.
