EB is incurable and infants who have the inherited illness are called ‘ʙuттerfly children’ due to the sensitivity of their skin.
A baby with the condition may develop a hoarse-sounding cry from continual blistering and scarring of the vocal cords, according to Mayo Clinic.

To announce her daughter’s death earlier this month, Hannah solemnly captioned a post, ‘In loving memory of Ellie. She pᴀssed peacefully last night, wrapped in love.’
Grief-stricken, she continued, ‘I don’t know what to do with myself today. I’m heartbroken, and I’m angry.
‘No child should have to endure what she did. EB stole her from us. Let’s fight for a cure so no other family has to feel this. Thank you for loving her with us.’
Days before the child died, Hannah revealed that Elliana’s health was rapidly declining and that she hadn’t opened her eyes in 24 hours.
Alongside a video, she wrote: ‘Ellie is still with us, but her body is tired. She hasn’t opened her eyes, eaten, and can hardly cry.
‘We’re holding her close and loving her through every breath.’

Elliana’s dermatologist, Dr. Diana Reusch, attended the baby girl’s memorial alongside her family.
Hannah shared her involvement via TikTok, noting that Dr. Reusch, had taken a bus to be there.
‘Hannah and Jacob knew that Ellie had EB, but they hadn’t gotten clarity yet about exactly what subtype Ellie had,’ Dr. Reusch explained in the recording, adding, ‘Ellie was not only at risk for extensive skin wounds, but also respiratory and Nutritional issues.’
She also shared, ‘Ellie was fighting for her life since the day that she was born. There’s no way that Ellie’s parents could have known ahead of time or prevented Ellie’s condition.’
Giving a glimmer of positivity, the dermatologist said: ‘The encouraging news is that I do think there is hope on the horizon as science and gene therapy advances. We’re not there yet, but in the years to come I think we can get there.’
