Of all the outfits she had at her fingertips – from her own high-end creations to a wardrobe full of designer clothes – it was one that seemed intended to make a statement.

Celebrating her 51st birthday at a friend’s house in Miami, Victoria Beckham stunned in one of her own best-selling looks – the exact same memorably worn by her 30-year-old daughter-in-law a little over a year ago.

The white two-panel corset and trouser co-ord, costing £1,190, comes from her 2024 collection – and was so popular that Nicola Peltz wore it to the premiere of her movie, Lola.

In fact, Mrs Beckham gave it to her as a present and the pair posted several pictures together, with Ms Peltz wearing it, on social media.

But 14 months on, relations between the pair are said to have soured somewhat, prompting the question: why did the former Spice Girl decide to wear the old look?

Unusually, neither Ms Peltz nor Brooklyn, 26, publicly wished Mrs Beckham a happy birthday on Thursday.

For a family who live their lives through Instagram, it was quite the snub – and came as Ms Peltz and Brooklyn were enjoying themselves at the Coachella music festival 2,600 miles away in Palm Springs.

So was Mrs Beckham having a sly dig at the American actress – looking just as good in it despite the 21-year age difference?

The fashionista – who tied her hair back in an almost identical way to Ms Peltz – is well known for her cheeky sense of humour.

Or was it an olive branch to her eldest son and his wife, whom none of the Beckham clan publicly congratulated on their third wedding anniversary a fortnight ago? Either way, it is likely Ms Peltz will have noticed the choice of outfits.

She and Brooklyn are expected to attend David Beckham’s 50th birthday celebrations on May 2. Maybe then, the meaning behind the look will become clear.
