Amazon bosses ‘plot a HUGE James Bond shake-up with 007 set to head north’ – after being banned from filming in central London

Filming for the next James Bond movie could reportedly take place in Liverpool.

According to The Sun, Amazon bosses are currently scouting fresh locations for the superspy due to a filming ban in Central London next year.

Producers are said to believe Liverpool – famed for the Liver Building and the River Mersey – is a strong alternative, as it often doubles for the capital on screen.

An insider told the publication: ‘This will no doubt irk Bond purists who already fear Amazon taking over the 007 franchise may lead to them making big changes.

‘But Liverpool is a well-known alternative to London for film-makers.

‘It has appeared in everything from The Batman to Captain America and Harry Potter movies, doubling up as international cities.’

The source added that it doesn’t necessarily mean the story will be set in Liverpool –  though eagle-eyed Merseysiders will no doubt spot their city centre in the background.

MailOnline has contacted Amazon for comment.

Streaming giant Amazon gained creative control of the James Bond franchise earlier this year.

And earlier this month, The Sun reported that bosses are poised to cast the youngest-ever James Bond in 007 prequels set in the 1950s and 1960s.

Florence Pugh is also said to be lined up to star in TV spin-off The Moneypenny Diaries.

Daniel Craig played the suave spy for the fifth and final time in 2021’s No Time to Die.

Meanwhile, rising star James Nelson-Joyce has addressed rumours linking him to the iconic role of James Bond, after his name was thrown into the mix as a potential successor.

The Liverpudlian actor, 36, has captured fans’ attention by starring as crime boss Michael Kavanagh in the BBC’s new gritty drama This City Is Ours.

James – who previously worked with Adolescence star Stephen Graham – has blown viewers away with his intense performance alongside Sean Bean, propelling him into mainstream fame.

Now, there’s already growing chatter that he could be in line for a major film role, with bookmakers slashing the odds of him replacing Daniel Craig as the next 007.

Breaking his silence, James revealed he would be very interested in playing the 007 spy, saying it would be a ‘privilege’ to be the first-ever Scouse Bond.

‘I mean… double oh Scouse, I’m here for it,’ he quipped during an interview with the BBC.

Since his debut in This City Is Ours, the odds of James being the next Bond have soared from 25-1 to 6-1 in a huge leap, according to Coral Bookmakers.

‘James Nelson-Joyce has made a big impression on the new BBC crime drama series, This Is Our City,’ Coral’s John Hill said.

‘He has been well-backed to become the next James Bond following the opening episode.’

James is in the running alongside the likes of The White Lotus’ Theo James, Superman Henry Cavill and Happy Valley’s James Norton.

Bullet Train star Aaron Taylor-Johnson has also been among the top contenders while fans have also put Harris Dickinson and Jonathan Bailey’s names forward.

It was recently confirmed that Bond will remain male – and either British or from the Commonwealth – amid fan concerns over major changes following Amazon’s takeover of the franchise.
