Country music star performs in wheelchair after suffering onstage injury

One of country music’s brightest stars made sure the show went on in spite on a nasty tumble in front of thousands of fans.

Thomas Rhett, 35, was a surprise guest at Forrest Frank’s show in Nashville Sunday night.

All seemed to be going well, when Frank mentioned Rhett’s name as he began singing their latest collaboration.

He then halted and asked the audience, ‘I can’t sing Thomas Rhett’s verse, can I?’

That’s when a spotlight quickly showed Rhett sitting quietly in the Bridgestone Arena.

A video the Country Music ᴀssociation Award winner shared showed him confidently walking down the stairs, but as he reached the floor, something happened and he took a tumble.

The hitmaker quickly got up with the help of security guards.

He then  limped on to the stage where he and Frank didn’t miss a beat or a jump from their performance, although most of the time Rhett was on one foot.

After they finished singing Nothing Else, Rhett went backstage where his ankle was looked at and wrapped.

‘@hiforrest told me to pull up and I left in a wheelchair,’ Rhett wrote self-deprecatingly next to the video clip on Instagram.

As his wife Lauren pushed him out of the venue in a wheelchair, the Angels singer joked, ‘Every now and then you just have to sing in a Forrest Frank concert and break your ankle in the process.’

‘I gave my all for Tennessee,’ he quipped.

‘Singing for Jesus,’ Lauren added, as she pushed him away laughing.

‘You have no mercy at all,’ the Amazing Grace singer was heard telling his chortling bride.

‘Lauren’s laugh. Feel better soon TR!’ wrote a fan who saw the clip.

”Got my family, Jesus, and my health…’ literally singing this while hopping on one foot bc of a broken ankle is like next level!’ was the praise received from another admirer.

‘I was in the pit and had zero idea. this is wild. Respect.’ wrote a concertgoer.

People magazine later confirmed that Rhett’s ankle was sprained and not broken.

It is uncertain how Rhett’s injury will affect his upcoming tour, which was scheduled to begin June 6 in Rogers, Arkansas.
