Tony Blackburn revealed two baffling habits that ‘keep him healthy’ after his battle with sepsis and pneumonia.
The radio DJ, 82, sat down with Kate Garraway, 57, on Wednesday’s instalment of ITV’s Lorraine.
Presenter Kate asked Tony how he was doing after having life-threatening sepsis and pneumonia in 2023.
He had pulled out of his popular Sound of the 60s Tour and Radio 2 show after he was taken ill, but at the time, he said he had a chest infection.
‘How do you feel now? How do you generally keep fit?’ Kate asked.
‘I don’t do anything, my dad was a doctor and he said to me don’t do too much exercise,’ the DJ explained.

‘Because with running and stuff, everybody collapses with it. So I’ve never done any exercise, I don’t like gyms or anything like that.’
Tony also revealed a dietary habit he had kept up since being a young child that he believes contributes to his health.
‘I’m a vegetarian, I’ve been a vegetarian since the age of five just because I love animals,’ Tony said.
‘But I think being a vegetarian, I gather now it’s quite a good thing for your health, that’s what I’ve been told so its working at the moment.’
Kate replied, ‘Well it’s working brilliantly. And you don’t stop, you have no intentions of retiring and you keep moving.’
Sepsis is a life-threatening condition caused when the body releases chemicals to fight an infection, while pneumonia is an infection that inflames the air sacs in one or both lungs.
Last year, Tony revealed how he is ‘lucky to still be around’ after battling life-threatening sepsis and pneumonia.
Speaking on Good Morning Britain the radio DJ explained how serious his health woes were.
In August 2023 he shared just how serious his two-month hospital stay actually was as he explained how he was suffering from sepsis, pneumonia and blood poisoning.

Reflecting on the tough time he said on GMB with Susanna Reid and Richard Madeley: ‘My blood was infected and it got into my heart so I’m quite lucky to be still be around.
‘I don’t remember a lot but I was rushed to A&E and I had this thing up my nose.
‘When I got to hospital the guy was like “I think you’ll be here for a while” and I said “I can’t I have a show in two days” and he said he didn’t think I’d make it to the shows.
‘I got sepsis from having a tooth extracted I believe so you have to be really careful!’
