Clea Shearer announced Tuesday that she is having emergency surgery to address a ‘traumatic’ complication that has arisen after numerous cancer surgeries.
The 43-year-old Extreme Makeover: Home Edition host previously had a double mastectomy two years ago after being diagnosed with breast cancer.
But after eight surgeries — which included the removal of her ovaries — Clea admitted she was now going to have to have her ninth procedure after one of her breast implants appeared to be leaking.
She previously revealed in February that she was having issues with her right breast and its implant, and she ‘sobbed’ at the time over fear that she would be ‘losing her breasts twice’ if her implant had to be removed.
Tuesday’s update suggested that the reality show host hadn’t been able to escape those fears.
‘This is a bit of a shock, but I am headed to the hospital right now for surgery number nine,’ Clea announced at the start of her video in a surprisingly relaxed tone.
Extreme Makeover: Home Edition host Clea Shearer revealed Tuesday on Instagram that she was going to the hospital for emergency surgery for complications from her double mastectomy
She told her fans that her right breast’s incision was ‘open’ to her implant and ‘leaking a lot’ of fluid. Back in February she reported intense pain in the same breast’; seen with her husband, pH๏τographer John Shearer
‘As you guys know, my right breast has been giving me issues and complications this entire time, and it’s finally reached kind of its limit,’ she continued.
Clea revealed that the incision had been excreting fluid considerably in recent days, and she said it was ‘open to my implant and leaking a lot.’
As she was traveling at the time, she said she contacted her doctor, who instructed her to keep the incision site covered with bandages.

However, they said once she was back home she would need another surgery — her ninth resulting from her breast cancer diagnosis — that would require removing her right implant ‘entirely’ while letting the breast ‘go flat with a prosthetic.’
Her voice began to crack as she admitted that she had been fearing a similar outcome.
‘I have like a hard time saying it without crying, cause this is like, you know, absolutely not what I wanted, and it basically puts me back into April 2022, right after my double mastectomy,’ Clea admitted. ‘I will essentially have a single mastectomy on one side. I will be completely flat.’
After her surgery, the Extreme Makeover host will be down to one implant for several months at the least.
However, she said she hopes to have Latissimus dorsi flap surgery performed in November, which could recreate the original shape of her breast without some of the post-surgery complications she has experienced in recent months.
Her doctor said she would have to ‘go flat’ after emergency surgery to remove the implant. She choked up over fears that she would be right back where she started after her mastectomy
Clea has already undergone eight surgeries, including her double mastectomy and surgery to remove her ovaries after she was diagnosed with breast cancer
For the procedure, surgeons make an incision on the back near the shoulder blade to remove skin and fat, as well as accompanying blood vessels and part of the latissimus muscle, which is involved in twisting movements.
The tissue is then used to reconstruct the breast’s shape, and the fat can be used in place of implants.
Several other locations of skin and fat can also be used to reconstruct breasts, depending on the needs of the patient.

Those undergoing Latissimus dorsi flap surgery often have implants placed under the new tissue, as less skin and fat are transferred compared to other donor locations.
‘Hopefully, that will be the end of all of these insane complications. But this one is pretty traumatic for me,’ Clea added.
One silver lining was that she’s now a ‘pro at surgery’ after undergoing so many in the wake of her cancer diagnosis.
‘But this one, I don’t know. The level of trauma I think is really gonna be difficult for me,’ she worried.
‘Usually, every surgery you go in — at least I do — I hope that you come out and things are better,’ she said. ‘Like that is the point.’
She also went through eight weeks of AC chemotherapy, 12 weeks of Taxol chemotherapy, and two months of radiation to combat her cancer
There wasn’t any of that hopeful feeling surrounding her impending surgery, which she said felt ‘like it’s the only surgery I’ve had since my double mastectomy that just puts me so far back.’
‘Anyway, like I said, this is not what I wanted, but I’m out of options,’ she concluded her video.
Clea revealed back in February that she was suffering complications with the same breast.

She was forced to cancel a flight to appear on LIVE! With Kelly And Mark after telling her fans she had ‘developed mᴀssive pain’ in her right breast, which necessitated taking ‘very strong antibiotics’ to combat the apparent infection.
At the time, she told her fans that her doctor had warned her to ’emotionally prepare for needing to go flat,’ which made her ‘burst into tears.’
‘I know a lot of women choose that path, but this wasn’t what I wanted. I’ve spent a year and a half in constant surgeries to make myself feel whole again and it was too much to process,’ she said.
However, Clea added that her mother reminded her that she wasn’t back to square one, as even if she had to go back to her post-mastectomy state, she was still cancer free.
