Lauren Sánchez revealed the hilarious joke she made to her fiancé, Jeff Bezos, before her trip to space as a member of Blue Origin’s first all-female flight crew.
After touching back down to Earth, the Emmy Award-winning journalist, 55, revealed the cheeky comment she made to her husband-to-be, 61, prior to embarking onto her historic expedition to space with Flight NS-31.
While recalling her final goodbye with Bezos, who founded Blue Origin back in 2000, the former Good Day LA host recalled ‘seeing Jeff before’ she left and thinking ‘Oof.’
‘Like, you know, I had to come back — I mean, we’re getting married. If I didn’t come back, that would be a bummer for me,’ she told Charissa Thompson.
Thompson, then, revealed the joke Sánchez made to her before her emotional, eight-minute trip.
‘You said, ‘”Jeff, if you don’t want to marry me, you don’t have to send me to space,”‘ Thompson reminded Sánchez.

As she reflected on her voyage, Sánchez said: ‘It was a feeling of joy and camaraderie. It was a feeling of gratefulness. It was a feeling of, “We’re doing this.”‘
When asked about what she witnessed, she replied: ‘Earth looked so … it was so quiet. It was just quiet.’
‘I don’t think you can describe it. It was quiet but also really alive. And you look at it, and you’re like, “We’re all in this together.” All I could think about it is, “We’re so connected” — more connected than you realize.’
The mission, the first all-female space trip since 1963 and the only all-women crew, saw the women reach 100km (62 miles) above Earth – thereby crossing the Karman line, the boundary of space.
As the capsule entered freefall, the crew was treated to three to four minutes of weightlessness and a magnificent view.
Earlier this week, Sanchez spoke to the The New York Times about designing the blue suits, which she wanted to ‘reimagine the flight suit.’

‘Usually, you know, these suits are made for a man,’ she explained. ‘Then they get tailored to fit a woman.’
The author declared: ‘I think the suits are elegant but they also bring a little spice to space.’
The journalist got in touch with Fernando Garcia and Laura Kim five months ago, who are the co-founders of the brand Monse and also the creative directors of Oscar de la Renta and made her 2024 Met Gala outfit.
They agreed to help her with the space suit designs.

‘Who would not get glam before the flight?’ Sánchez quipped, while Perry declared: ‘Space is going to finally be glam.’
‘Let me tell you something. If I could take glam up with me, I would do that. We are going to put the ‘a**’ in astronaut,’ the popstar added.
Since 2021, Blue Origin has carried a total of 52 people to the edge of space on 10 human flights. Bezos himself was part of the crew on Blue Origin’s first.
