Netflix poaches beloved BBC presenting duo – and it could spell disaster for your favourite primetime shows

Netflix poaches beloved BBC presenting duo – and it could spell disaster for your favourite primetime shows

Amanda Holden, 54, and Alan Carr, 48, have reportedly been poached by streaming giant Netflix after the cheeky fun on their Mediterranean home renovation shows delighted BBC viewers.

It was thought the iconic duo were in for a big future with the Beeb following the success of Amanda & Alan’s Italian Job and its spin-off series in Spain. However, the streaming giant has got in first, according to The Sun.

A TV insider told the publication: ‘The BBC One shows were hugely popular. Viewers love the spark between the two pals, which Netflix is keen to tap into as it expands its entertainment offering.

‘The exact nature of the new show is under wraps. It is a departure from Alan and Amanda’s renovation programme but still focuses on something close to their hearts.’

However, signing with Netflix could cause scheduling issues for their other hit shows including Britain’s Got Talent, Drag Race, Amanda & Alan’s Italian Job, and Amanda’s new show Cheat: Unfinished Business.

MailOnline has contacted Netflix, Amanda, and Alan’s representatives for comment.

Britain’s Got Talent judge Amanda was keen for comedian Alan to join the ITV show’s panel after David Walliams, 53, left in 2022.

However, boss Simon Cowell, 65, gave Bruno Tonioli, 69, the job, but at least Alan got to host ITV’s Royal Variety Performance with Amanda last year.

Many thought the duo would remain ITV favourites because last year Alan made a second run of his autobiographical comedy, Changing Ends, for the channel and Britain’s Got Talent returned this year bigger than ever.

However, Amanda has now bagged BBC gameshow The Inner Circle, and her new reality show Cheat: Unfinished Business, which begins this month on Netflix.

Amanda and Alan’s Greek Job is reportedly teed up for next year on the Beeb, meanwhile, Alan is also making new seasons of quiz Picture Slam and talent show Interior Design Masters.

Earlier this year Alan claimed that Amanda was ‘very bossy’ towards him on the set of their TV show.

The comedian teamed up with Amanda for their BBC series Amanda & Alan’s Spanish Job and admitted that she was always dishing orders out.

Speaking on The Graham Norton Show, he explained: ‘I love Amanda, but she is very bossy and always telling me what to do.’

The former Chatty Man host went on to add that he is ‘getting better slowly’ at the concept of DIY having had to do it for the cameras.

But he still struggles to remember what tools are called and mistakenly believes that a spirit level was known as a ‘spirit guide’.

He said: ‘I am getting better at DIY slowly but surely. I never really know what tools are called – for a long time I thought a spirit level was a spirit guide.’

Amanda & Alan’s Italian Job and its spin-off series are available to stream on BBC iPlayer.
