He explained: ‘Anytime there is something a little bit too Hollywood, she’ll be like, “bro, cmon”.
‘Especially because I grew up with her, there’s always just a lens of Suffolk over it. I wanted to build a bowling alley in our back garden, but Cherry said no.
‘She knew we didn’t need that. She doesn’t want our kids growing up in the Richie Rich house where there’s literally McDonald’s in our back garden.’
Ed, who already has a pub, cinema and recording room in his back garden, which is connected to his house via tunnels, was referring to the 1995 film Richie Rich, where Macaulay Culkin plays the son of a billionaire businessman.
Speaking on why he built a pub in the garden of his £3.7million estate in Suffolk, he said: ‘I built a pub in my garden because there used to be this pub I would go to, where I’d go to blow off steam.
‘And it got to that point where people knew I went there, so I couldn’t go as much and get as drunk as I’d like.
‘And there an old barn on my land, so I bought the counter and the pub off of eBay, and all of the plumbing and wiring in.
‘There’s now a tunnel to it from the house and in there I have also built a listening room and a cinema. And that’s my man catacombs.’

The singer also revealed his is now sober because of his busy work schedule and that he used to ‘drink every day’ and recalled his most embarrᴀssing moment.
‘There was this one moment where I had got drunk and whilst sleeping naked, I went to go for a pee and ended up locking myself out of the H๏τel room,’ he said.
‘I had to go and get a napkin from someone’s room service and go downstairs to reception and ask them to let me back into my room at 4am.
‘I asked my security guard to wipe all of the CCTV footage and I now sleep in pyjamas whenever I’m on the road.
‘I’m sober at the moment so that’s helping with not doing stupid sh**.
‘I saw the schedule for this year with the album release and I am flying all around the world and then flying home and being a dad as well.
‘And I don’t want to add on an extra layer of tiredness as well. So I am not drinking and I am going to focused and energised.
‘I won’t be sober forever, but I’ve definitely changed my relationship with alcohol. i used to drink every single day. Not spirits, but a glᴀss of wine at the end of the day.
‘Me and my wife do date night once a week every week, and that will be the time where I do start drinking and enjoy a bottle of wine together rather than having to have something every night.’
