Max George treated fans to a rare behind-the-scenes clip with his girlfriend Maisie Smith ahead of their stage show in Leeds on Thursday.

The Wanted star, 36, and the actress, 23, are currently starring in Jeff Wayne’s The War of the Worlds, which is touring the UK and Europe.

Taking to his Instagram Stories, the singer, covered in fake blood and scars, told Maisie: ‘Nearly stage time babe,’ to which she quickly snapped: ‘Don’t rush me!’

Max’s face dropped as he asked: ‘Is that a joke?’

The pair then broke their serious act and ended up giggling as Maisie ran towards Max and planted a kiss on his cheek.

The happy couple kicked off their stage show at the end of March and will wrap up at London’s O2 on April 20.

In the show, Max plays the role of Parson Nathaniel alongside his girlfriend Maisie as his on-stage wife Beth.

The productions marks the first time Max has returned to the stage for the first time since his heart operation.

The star had a pacemaker fitted after being admitted to the hospital in December while experiencing issues with his heart.

Just a month later, he was forced go under the knife again after it was discovered that his pacemaker wires were fitted too deeply, with the star experiencing a ‘flickering sensation’ in the weeks that followed.

Yet after focusing on his recovery the star has now returned to work and took to the stage with his girlfriend Maisie.

Speaking on his return last month, Max said: ‘I’m absolutely buzzing that I’m still able to perform as Parson Nathaniel in The War of The Worlds.

‘Obviously, the last few months have been rough, but after a lot of hard work and rehabilitation, I’m back to my best and I’ll be performing throughout the whole tour.

‘Getting to do this with Maisie is an experience I’m sure I’ll never forget.’

The show’s producer and composer Jeff Wayne also gushed over his return: ‘What a wonderful announcement to make to be able to say that Max is fit again and joining us on this fantastic UK and European tour.

‘Max’s health has been our key priority since he became ill, but under doctor’s guidance, he’s managed to fight his way back to fitness. Max is a born fighter, and we’re delighted he’s back to good health and able to tour with us.’

Appearing on Hayley Palmer’s new show Saturday Night With Hayley Palmer in his first interview since the operation the pair chatted about working together, despite Maisie being apprehensive at first.

She told Hayley: ‘It has been really fun. I had no idea what to expect as we do spend a lot of time together so I was like ‘how are we gonna spend time working together?”

‘Yeah work is normally our little break from each other,’ joked Max as Maisie added: ‘But it has been really fun.’

She teased: ‘If I don’t like something that he is doing I can just let him know.’

He penned: ‘Last few months have been pretty tough.. but I’ve slept and eaten more than ever which has been lovely!

‘Time to slowly get on the fitness wheel again… but I gotta admit, I think I’ll miss my new belly.. and the process of creating it’.

Back in February, Max opened up about his fears for the second surgery after doctors warned that the procedure could cause a ‘dangerous bleed’ on his heart.

Speaking to The Sun on Sunday, he explained: ‘I thought I was on the road to recovery but when I was told I needed a second operation I was nervous, as pulling the pacemaker wires out of the heart wall risks bleeding on the heart. I didn’t have a choice, though. I had to have it done.’

The singer went on to detail how things didn’t feel right after having his pacemaker fitted, with Max noting how his discomfort continued getting worse as time went by.

He said: ‘I was trying to get back to good health but was still having a flickering sensation for weeks after I had my pacemaker fitted and it was gradually getting worse and worse. When my heart rate went up, it was causing a shock in my heart which was making me jump all the time. My chest was shaking.’

Though the procedure was a success, Max’s health woes continued as medics soon discovered he had developed enlarged lymph nodes on his lungs that required treatment.

However, he was warned that his lung biopsy posed a risk he could lose his voice and never sing again.

Max explained: ‘The doctor did warn me there is a small chance that I could lose my voice. That was pretty worrying, but I decided I needed to take the risk. The biopsy was pretty gnarly, it’s a camera with prongs on the end that goes down your throat. It was painful. The recovery was tough, I had chest pain and was coughing up blood for five days.’

Fortunately for Max, he was later given the all-clear and is now focusing on getting fit again after the health issues left him the ‘least fit I’ve ever been’.

WHAT IS A PACEMAKER?

A pacemaker is a small, battery-powered device that prevents the heart from beating too slowly.

Surgery is needed to install it and the operation is generally carried out under local anaesthetic

Around 50,000 people are fitted with a pacemaker every year in the UK, according to the British Heart Foundation
