Shaun Wallace has shared a rare insight into his dating life as he revealed his current relationship status.

The Chase star, 64, has proven he has been deeply devoted to his career over the years but he does have time for some romance in his life.

When appearing on the How To Be 60 podcast with Kay Adams and Karen MacKenzie, he opened up about his current dating life.

When the two show hosts first asked questions about his love life, Shaun responded: ‘I suppose I’m married to my career. Put it that way. I like that. I prefer that and I’m happier.’

But after some persistence on the subject, he added, ‘Yes, I’m in a relationship.’

While Shaun is largely quite private about his private life, he recently opened up about his salary.

He revealed how much he earns from both the hit ITV quiz show compared to his sideline as a barrister – while also admitting what he spends most extravagantly on.

The trivia maestro, who sH๏τ to fame when winning Mastermind in 2004, says his annual earnings are now in ‘six-zero territory’ – and he is ‘sitting pretty’.

Yet despite pocketing ’70 per cent’ of his seven-figure annual income from his TV commitments, he still works as a barrister to top up his earnings.

And while he insists he is ‘always very, very shrewd’, he has opened up on what most tempts him into splurging the cash – shoes.

Shaun, originally from Brent in north-west London, estimates he has spent £50,000 on footwear – typically paying around £2,000 to £3,000 per pair.

He has been one of the ‘Chasers’ on the ITV show hosted by Bradley Walsh since 2009, dubbed ‘The Barrister’ and ‘The Dark Destroyer’.

He has previously insisted he does not regard the second nickname, given to him by Walsh, as racist – posting online: ‘I am proud to be dark in skin who destroys his opponents intellectually.’

Shauan told of failing his O-Level English exams four times, but went on to achieve a BA honours degree in law at what was then the Polytechnic of North London and is now part of London Metropolitan University.

The new insights into his current finances come as Shaun described himself as ‘far, far better off financially’ than his parents had been, with his mother working as a nurse and his father in a Heinz factory.

But he also told of his commitment to helping charities ‘all the time’, especially those dealing with motor neurone disease after his father Linford died from it in 2014.

When asked by the Times how much he earned, Shaun said: ‘A lot. That’s all I’ll say. How many zeros? Well into six-zero territory and my earnings have increased mᴀssively since I’ve started working in TV.

‘I got paid well as a barrister but I’m now earning about ten times the amount I was before. I still practise, though, so I have a dual income.

‘Probably 70 per cent of my income comes from my TV work and 30 per cent from the legal side. Everything changed when I won Mastermind in 2004. Not just my finances, my whole life.’

And when challenged to nominate his most extravagant indulgences, he nominated shoes – saying he had ‘a whole wardrobe full of them’ and had spent about £50,000 in total on pairs which were ‘all handmade’.

But Shaun insisted he would not namecheck his favourite brand in order to be sent some for free, saying he wanted to ‘pay my own way in life, thank you’.

And he described himself as someone without ‘any financial bad habits’, who does not gamble and who gave up smoking because he trains every day and runs marathons – while also saying: ‘Nobody’s taking my money.’

Shaun highlighted as his financial priority his ‘immediate family around me’, such as buying his mother a house and wishing he could have paid off his father’s mortgage before he died.

And he summed up his approach to money by urging people: ‘Treat it with respect and don’t be wasteful with it. I follow that through with every ounce of my being and that’s why I’m sitting pretty.’
