Lauren Sanchez has revealed why she is going into space two months before her splashy wedding in Italy with billionaire Jeff Bezos.

The former TV star told ELLE magazine there is a code the couple live by.

‘We have a saying in our house, “Life takes off on the other side of fear,”‘ Sanchez said of living with Amazon mogul Bezos.

She then reached out a hand to Gayle King as she shared: ‘Trust me, I’m a little scared too.’

Lauren and Gayle will be flying into space with Katy Perry and Gayle King.

Also in the group is former NASA rocket scientist Aisha Bowe as well as civil rights activist Amanda Nguyễn and film producer Kerianne Flynn.

Blue Origin Flight NS-31, set to take off on April 14, is the first crew made up solely of women since Russian astronaut Valentina Tereshkova’s solo space flight in 1963.

‘All of these women are storytellers in their own right,’ Lauren, 55, said. ‘They’re going to go up to space and be able to spread what they felt in different ways.’ 

It will also be among the most diverse set of women to ever go to space all at once.

The entire trip is expected to last 11 minutes, and the women will be going up in a rocket that flies itself, allowing each of them to enjoy the flight as pᴀssengers. 

Once they reach space, they’ll be able to float around the rocket for about four minutes before coming back down to Earth.

The NS-31 flight will lift off from Launch Site One in West Texas. The New Shepard launch window opens at 8:30 a.m. CDT / 13:30 UTC. 

This flight comes amid Lauren’s wedding planning to Bezos, 61.

They will be getting married this summer in Venice, Italy.

To put the guest number in perspective: When George Clooney threw his $5M wedding to Amal in Venice in September 2014, they had about 150 guests. 

On Monday the mayor of the Italian city confirmed that the wedding will take place in the historical location where tourists flock every year.

He also let slip how many people will be watching the TV star and Amazon mogul say ‘I do’: it will be about 200.

One of the most interesting details about the statement is the splashy gathering will have only about 200 people, the mayor confirmed, as he added that is not too many guests for the city to hold.

He shared this detail as fans thought that the power couple would have twice that as they are so connected. 

And the mayor felt it necessary to relay that the moderate number would prevent any disruptions in the fame coastal city which has experienced flooding in recent years.

‘We are mutually working and supporting the organizers, to ensure that the event will be absolutely respectful of the fragility and uniqueness of the city,’ Mayor Luigi Brugnaro said in his statement.

The couple reportedly had sent out their wedding invitations in early March for the summer event off the coast of Venice. 

Bezos and Sánchez went public with their relationship in 2019 and got engaged in May 2023.

The loved-up couple then celebrated their engagement with a star-studded party at Diane von Furstenberg and Barry Diller’s Beverly Hills mansion in November 2023, with guests including Kim Kardashian, Robert Pattinson and Oprah. 

Earlier, Lauren’s older brother, Paul Sánchez, told TMZ it would be an over-the-top wedding.

‘I think it’s gonna be like a Princess Di thing,’ Paul told the outlet, referring to Princess Diana’s 1981 wedding to then Prince Charles.

‘Just huge and fun, and just a blast,’ the sibling noted. ‘I’m thrilled beyond belief,’ Paul added of the celebration. ‘It’s gonna be an amazing event. It’s gonna be star-studded and fun.’

Other guests include Kris Jenner plus members of her all-female Blue Origin space crew, including King. Also invited are Leonardo DiCaprio, Barbra Streisand, Ivanka Trump and Jared Kushner as well as Karlie Kloss and Joshua Kushner.

On Sunday, Lauren and Jeff were seen shopping in Milan, which is a three-hour drive from Venice. They stopped by Dolce & Gabbana which offers dresses and suits from the famed duo Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana.

The Amazon founder and the Emmy-winning journalist held hands and had security all around them. When they left the store, a handler was spotted carrying large white garment bags behind the future Mr and Mrs Bezos.

Sanchez told Vogue magazine in 2023 that she will be taking the last name Bezos, saying: ‘Uh, yes, 100 per cent. I am looking forward to being Mrs Bezos.’

Bezos told CNN: ‘Lauren is the most generous, most big-hearted person that you would ever meet…She never misses a birthday. The network of people that she gives birthday presents to is gigantic. And that’s just a small example.

‘We’re really great teammates, and we also have a lot of fun together. And we love each other.’

Bezos was previously married to novelist MacKenzie Scott. They split in 2019 and it then emerged he had been romancing Sanchez. Princeton graduate Bezos is estimated to be worth $240 billion.
