Squirming The One Show hosts forced to apologise as Sally Phillips swears TWICE live on air in chaotic BBC interview

The One Show hosts were forced apologise after guest Sally Phillips accidently let slip a swear word during Tuesday’s show.

The A-list actress, 54, is well known for her appearances in Bridget Jones, Smack the Pony, and Veep. She is also set to star in the new BBC series Austin.

Joining her co-star Ben Miller, 59, the actress appeared on The One Show to talk about their upcoming series.

Discussing their co-star Michael Theo, Sally gushed: ‘He is such a nice person and he had such a thing about feeling that autism was only very narrowly represented on TV so he wanted to reflect that and we consulted him all the way along.’

She continued: ‘He was so great, so truthful and adorable.’

Turning to Ben, the actress said: ‘We did have a word with each other early on, we were like ‘Oh s**t. S**t he’s really good. We’re going to have to raise our game.’

As the story continued, Lauren Laverne quickly realised the mistake and apologised for the slip up.

She said: ‘Now I think speaking of language, and the love of language, we should just apologise for any fruity language. Sorry.’

Looking confused co-host Alex Jones asked: ‘Was it me?’ before Lauren reᴀssured her: ‘No, it wasn’t you!’

Ben and Sally exchanged a look before bursting out into laughter as they realised Sally had dropped an accidental swear word live on air.

‘I think it might have been me, yes I’ll take it,’ joked Claudia Winkleman, who was also on the couch alongside the singer Mika.

Claudia cheekily nodded at Sally, playfully taking the blame for the on-air slip.

Meanwhile, Sally, looking completely mortified, covered her face with her hand.

The eight-part series, Austin, is created by Miller in collaboration with Darren Ashton, Joe Tucker, and Lloyd Wolf.

It follows Julian Hartswood, a beloved children’s author played by Miller, whose career takes a nosedive after he accidentally sparks a social media frenzy.

However, his life is turned upside down when Austin, a neurodivergent son that. Julian never knew existed, suddenly appears.

The synopsis for BBC series reads: ‘When author Julian’s offensive post goes viral, his career seems over until his neurodivergent son Austin suddenly arrives.

‘Embracing Austin may be Julian’s path to redemption if he and wife Ingrid can move past his mistakes.’

The One Show airs weekdays at 7pm on BBC One and is available to stream on iPlayer.
