Morgan Wallen was ‘REPLACED by A-lister’ for SNL sketch before viral rude walk-off

Morgan Wallen was ‘REPLACED by A-lister’ for SNL sketch before viral rude walk-off

An A-lister replaced Morgan Wallen after the country singer turned down an invitation to take part in an Saturday Night Live sketch during his infamous musical guest appearance, according to a new report.

Joe Jonas, 35, appeared last-minute in the musical sketch Big Dumb Line after Wallen, 31, refused an offer to appear in the bit for this past weekend’s episode, according to Page Six.

‘[Morgan] was asked but declined, so they got Joe instead,’ the source said.

Variety has also reported that the part was written for the Whiskey Glᴀsses singer.

Wallen, who was this past weekend’s musical guest, sparked controversy when he walked off the stage at the end of the show, despite it being unspoken tradition for the guests and the cast to hug and mingle before the credits roll.

Apparently Wallen was ‘not super friendly’ on set either, the Page Six insider said, adding their hopes of having him ‘do the pre-tape and perhaps more’ were dashed.

The source added that while Wallen followed through on his performing obligations, that was it as far as his involvement.

The source added Wallen had done the same during an earlier practice: ‘He did the same thing for dress [rehearsal], i.e. walking off; he was done.’

DailyMail.com has contacted Wallen’s representatives for comment.

Wallen walked off at the end of the show after Mikey closed off the show.

He was seen saying something to the Anora star before she joined the cast in celebration.

As she turned around to mingle with them, Wallen walked right off the stage.

He seemingly headed straight to the airport to leave New York City as he posted a pH๏τo of a private jet on a tarmac to his Instagram Stories.

‘Get me to God’s country,’ the post read.

A source from Morgan’s team has since told Variety that Morgan had a good time on the show and did not mean to cause any offense with his abrupt exit and Instagram post.

After a number of scandals, the controversy-suffused country music star made his sophomore appearance on SNL following his 2020 debut.

Four years ago, he temporarily stalled his career after he was caught on tape drunkenly shouting the N-word outside his home in February of 2021.

The N-word controversy led to public condemnation of Wallen, but fans of the singer responded to him using the offensive racial slur by listening to his music more than ever, leading to a 500 percent increase in streaming numbers.

When Good Morning America’s Michael Strahan asked Wallen if he thought that streaming surge could be a sign of racism lurking in the country music industry, he replied that he ‘hadn’t really thought about that,’ via The Daily Beast.

After the N-word incident, the singer reportedly expressed interest in having a sit-down with the Nashville NAACP, but TMZ later reported that he stopped taking the organization’s calls and resumed touring.

He was initially banned by several major corporations who own an empire of radio stations, but after just four months the owners had quietly allowed stations to begin playing Wallen’s music as they saw fit.

Saturday marked Wallen’s return to the show following his infamous N-word scandal.

Wallen was previously uninvited to perform in 2020 after partying at the University of Alabama, days before the show, amid the COVID pandemic.

Two months later, he made his debut on the show and even appeared in a sketch, alongside Jason Bateman, poking fun at the controversy.

Wallen’s fourth studio album, I’m The Problem, is set for release on May 16.
