Meanwhile, in an new interview with The Mirror, Cornel revealed that winning the compeтιтion and earning a spot to play for the King at the Royal Variety Performance would be extra-special.

The 33-year-old shared: ‘My adoptive mum went to one of Prince Charles’ garden parties at Highgrove.

‘She showed the now-King a picture of me in the orphanage that she kept in a bible. It would almost be like coming full circle. Playing for the King would be such an honour.’

‘There’s no ill feeling, quite the opposite. They let their child go and have great opportunities.’

In 2004, Cornel was awarded the Mirror Pride of Britain Child of Courage Award, which was presented by Carol Vorderman.

Overcoming adversity, Cornel started playing drums at age 11 by strapping sticks to his upper arms.

In his spare time, he plays in a band and was also the house drummer on the Channel 4 series The Last Leg.
