Zayn Malik canceled his show in Mexico City on Friday night after he contracted a serious case of food poisoning. 

He shared a note explaining why he had to cancel the concert on his Instagram Story just hours before the show was to start.

‘I’m heartbroken to say that I won’t be able to perform tonight in Mexico City,’ Malik, 32, wrote.

‘I’ve been really sick since this morning and, despite trying everything to push through, my body just isn’t allowing it.’

‘I’m so sorry to let you down. The love and energy I always feel from my fans mean the world to me, and it hurts deeply to miss this moment with you,’ he continued. 

‘Thank you for your understanding, and please know I’m sending all of my love to each of you,’ he concluded.

About seven hours later, Zayn shared an update, expressing his love for Mexico City and his regret over having to cancel the show. 

He also revealed that a lot of the people on his crew were also felled by the food poisoning.

‘Mexico I love you even though myself and many of my crew got severe food poisoning,’ Malik. ‘It’s no joke — I’m still struggling.’

The former One Direction singer went on to apologize to his fans who had tickets to the Friday performance.

‘To my fans, I’m so sorry — these shows have made me feel alive, happy, grateful and at home, and that’s all because of you,’ Malik expressed. 

‘These shows, your energy, your fan projects filled me with so much love and a feeling I can’t even describe. Big love.’

At his Tuesday show in Mexico City fans got a real treat.  He played One Direction’s Night Changes for the first time in ten years – on a very special date.

Tuesday marked one whole decade since the former boyband member left the group back in 2015.

He delighted fans by belting out the ballad as a surprise opener on his first ever solo arena show at the Palacio De Los Deportes in Mexico City.

Clips circulating on social media see the crowd errupt into screams as he sings the first line of the iconic song, which was originally released in 2014.

After the rendition, Zayn was emotional as he told the crowd: ‘I haven’t sung this song in 10 years. Thank you, that was amazing, I almost cried.’

Taking to X to react to the shock moment, fans wrote: ‘Zayn Malik opening his first ever sold out arena with night changes wasn’t on my 2025 bingo card.’

Zayn opening with “Night Changes” is certainly a deliberate choice. I can totally imagine that he wanted to bring it full circle this way on the day he left 1D. He’s also a very purposeful man so there’s no way he wouldn’t sing a ID song after teasing it..’

Zayn left One Direction fans devastated back in 2015 when he sensationally announced he was leaving the boyband in a bid to be a ‘normal’ then 22-year-old.

The new performance comes after the tragic death of his bandmate Liam Payne in October last year.

As he tours, the star, who shares a four-year-old named Khai with his ex Gigi Hadid, has been paying tribute to his late friend at the end of his set during his song Stardust.

Zayn’s tour has become notable for another reason as well. His entire backing band is made up of women.

His band has become celebrities recently after going viral on social media.

The star employed seven women to accompany him on tour: guitarist Molly Miller, the drummer who goes by Baby Bulldog, singers Lisa Ramey, Tahira Clayton and Rebecca Haviland, keyboard player Tina Hizon and bᴀssist Ryan Madora.

Lisa took to Instagram to share some snaps of the band, alongside the caption: ‘The ladies say hello.’

Zayn has also posted pictures of the group together, starting with one taken in May before the tour kicked off.
