Chet Hanks was roasted by fans for a ‘cringe’ new music video with his A-list father Tom Hanks recreating the icon’s film, Forrest Gump.

The Running Point actor, 34 – who recently revealed the actress who gave him the ‘best moment’ of his life – dropped the song You Better Run on Friday through his country duo called Something Out West. 

In the three-minute clip, Chet could be seen recreating iconic scenes from the 1994 film Forrest Gump – which starred his father in the leading role. 

He sat on a bench wearing a similar suit to what his father’s character had worn in the Oscar-winning project, and also offered a box of chocolates to a woman who sat next to him. 

Towards the middle of the video, Tom was also seen sitting on the bench but then sent a confused look as he glanced over at his son who was next to him. 

Other snippets included Chet humorously belting out lyrics to his father who continued to look bothered as his son moved closer and closer to him on the wooden bench at the park.

Another famous scene that he recreated in the music video was the cross-country scene that occurred at the end of Forrest Gump. 

Chet sported a fake beard as well as a red cap and red jacket to match the outfit that his dad donned in the movie. 

Throughout the clip, the son of Tom and Rita Wilson was joined by Drew Arthur who additionally offered vocals during the upbeat song. 

The pair appeared on a boat on the water – which was a possible reference to the shrimping boat in the film. 

Social media users shared their thoughts on the newly dropped track and Tom’s surprise cameo in the music video. 

In the comment section on YouTube, one penned: ‘Even his dad is cringing at the whole thing,’ followed by laughing emojis. 

Another shared, ‘Chet never ceases to be a source of top quality cringe. Poor Tom,’ and one added, ‘Some of nepotism at it’s finest! I love seeing nepotism babies doing their own things!’

However, others came to Chet’s defense and his father’s appearance in the clip, with one typing out on Instagram, ‘Seeing you and your father together for this video is such a beautiful sight.’

Earlier this month, the Shameless actor revealed on The Drew Barrymore Show that he is ‘three and a half years sober.’ 

Last month in February, Hanks and Arthur notably signed with the label Big Machine Records which is based in Nashville, per Variety. 

Taylor Swift had previously been signed to the record label, while other music artists such as Tim McGraw, Carly Pearce and the Rascal Flatts are currently represented by Big Machine. 

During a recent interview with Entertainment Tonight, Chet explained, ‘We’ve just been waiting a long time to just release the music because we recorded it a long time ago. 

‘And we didn’t have any team behind us, no manager, no label, nothing,’ he continued, before adding that their debut single Leaving Hollywood ‘deserved a proper rollout.’ 

The first single was dropped late last month in February – and the lyrics were co-written by Drew Arthur. 

And while talking to Esquire, Chet expressed that he is ‘excited’ for his music and what the future holds.

‘Ultimately, I consider myself an artist, and acting and music are just two different mediums for being able to express myself. I’m in a group called Something Out West with my homeboy Drew Arthur.

‘We recently signed a record deal, and we’re actually putting out our first single the day after the show [Running Point] comes out.’

The star added, ‘I’ve been working on this music for a long time, and so I would like to be touring and finally letting the world hear it.’ 

Along with focusing on his career in music, Chet has also been keeping busy with his latest sports comedy series тιтled Running Point – which was released on Netflix last month on February 27.

The cast also includes Kate Hudson, Brenda Song, Justin Theroux, Drew Tarver, Scott MacArthur and Max Greenfield.

The premise is: ‘Isla Gordon (Hudson), overlooked her whole life, is appointed President of the LA Waves basketball team, a family business. She aims to prove she was the right choice despite skepticism,’ per IMDB.

Chet took on the role of pro basketball player Travis Bugg in the series – which was renewed for a second season this month.

When it came to preparing for his character, the star told Men’s Health this month, ‘I hired a private basketball coach and added that on top of my training regimen.

‘He just ran me through all the basic stuff, like drills that any athlete who plays basketball would be familiar with.’

The star added, ‘I’ve been working on this music for a long time, and so I would like to be touring and finally letting the world hear it’

The actor also talked about being open about his sobriety and told the outlet, ‘It’s not hard to talk about, because a lot of people struggle with addiction.

‘They might not want to admit that to themselves. Maybe they’re just kind of stuck. If telling my story can encourage them to get out of their own way, that’s important to me.’

In regards to also working on his mental health amid his sobriety journey, Chet expressed, ‘I mean, being sober is the ultimate thing you can do to better your mental health.

‘If you’re prone to addiction, I feel like it’s the only way you can start to manage your mental health. It’s when you’re not sober that the problems with your mental health get worse.’
