Netflix set to reboot iconic cartoon as live action remake – but livid fans beg ‘stop ruining my childhood!’

Netflix is set to reboot an iconic cartoon as a live action remake, but livid fans have begged ‘stop ruining my childhood!’

Many adults grew up watching Scooby-Doo and his friends, Shaggy, Daphne, Fred and Velma solve mysteries.

The popular cartoon first aired back in 1969 and has seen various series and movies since.

Now, streaming giant Netflix has announced there will be a new live-action series coming to the platform.

In a post on X, Netflix said: ‘A Scooby-Doo live-action series is coming to Netflix!

‘In this modern reimagining, old friends Shaggy and Daphne team up at summer camp with scientific townie Velma and the strange but handsome Fred to solve the mystery of a lonely lost Great Dane puppy — who may have witnessed a supernatural murder.’

However, some fans haven’t welcomed the news and took to social media to share their thoughts on the reboot.

One posted on X: ‘You know you could just make a different show, different story etc. This is going to be a Velma 2.0 all over again.’

A second said: ‘Don’t you dare! Just don’t!’

Someone else penned: ‘Just make it a cartoon.. we had a peak live action before we don’t need a new one’

Another commented: ‘Why must they ruin everything?’

According to the Daily Star, one fan wrote online: ‘Hey Netflix quit ruining my childhood cartoons with s****y live action remakes. Thanks.’

Some mentioned how Disney’s recent reboot of Snow White wasn’t well received by many and one posted: ‘When I see the phrase ‘modern reimagining’ I’m already wary… Please learn from Velma and Snow ‘Woke’… don’t make the same mistakes.’

Another added: ‘Because Snow White is working out so well for Disney.’

Some were more positive however, and someone posted: ‘Ohh this looks wildly promising.’

Peter Friedlander, vice president of scripted series at Netflix, said: ‘Mystery Inc. is back in business! We’re excited to bring Scooby-Doo to TV as a live-action series for the first time.’

He added: ‘The beloved franchise has had an impact on pop culture that is undeniable — it’s rich with universal themes of friendship that generations of fans have long embraced.

‘Together with creative powerhouses Berlanti Productions and Midnight Radio, we’re committed to delighting longtime fans and opening up a world of groovy adventures for a new era of meddling kids.’

It comes after Disney’s attempt to remake classic Snow White has received backlash from some fans after it was released earlier this month.

The live-action movie, which has been met with overwhelmingly negative reviews, is struggling at the box office.

Fans blasted the movie on X, branding it ‘so woke it will brainwash kids’ and fumed the message of the movie was ‘rubbish’.

The film is shaping up to be one of the franchise’s worst-performing movies in recent years, according to initial box office figures.

Snow White has been mired in controversy due to comments from its star Rachel Zegler and the absence of the iconic song ‘Someday My Prince Will Come.’
