The actor, 63, joined the sofa with his Men Behaving Badly co-star Neil Morrissey to discuss their new programme Bon Voyage.

After watching a preview of the new show, Martin was left taken aback after a cheeky quip from Alex left the studio giggling.

She teased: ‘Now, well, a lovely programme. We first saw you, of course, together back in the 90s on Men Behaving Badly.

‘Is this just an excuse to relive the good old days?’

Martin jokingly exclaimed: ‘How dare you? ! How dare you? We tried to make an edifying fine piece of television for the British viewers here.’

Neil added: Educational, fun, nostalgic.’

Discussing their onscreen reunion, he continued: ‘It’s a great excuse actually to hang out because we haven’t hung out with each other.’

The Men Behaving Badly stars have reunited 26 years after their hit sitcom for a new three-part TV road trip adventure through France for Bon Voyage.

Neil shows Martin around the country he now calls his second home as the former admitted: ‘You couldn’t get away with making Men Behaving Badly now’.

The duo last starred opposite each other as Tony Smart and Gary Strang in the comedy, which aired on ITV and then the BBC between 1992 and 1998.

They became the ‘lads of the era’ with Neil now confessing the show never intended to be Sєxist or misogynistic.

Speaking to The Mirror he joked: ‘If you said misogyny to either Tony or Gary, they’d have probably thought it was a Polish sausage.

Explaining how the show wouldn’t be accepted today Martin said: ‘Life has changed. With some social media and the entire world becoming a journalist, and everything becoming so polarised that it’s like, “they said something inappropriate, therefore it can’t be funny, it must be bad, let’s stamp it out and cancel it all,” rather than seeing any nuance in life.’

He added: ‘Nuance has gone out of fashion. I think everything’s become bold and brash in terms of comedy.’

Their new show aired on Gold on March 25 and sees them travel from Normandy, through the Alps to Neil’s home and cider apple orchard in the southern region.

As they take in the local food, landscapes and local traditions, the old friends will reconnect and reminisce on their professional and personal relationship that spans 30 years.

Neil said: ‘It’s fantastic we have this golden opportunity to reunite so I can introduce my pal Martin to all the things I love so much about France, along with some Gallic treasures I’ve always wanted to see.

‘I’ve fallen in love with this country, its glorious food, its delicious wine, and knowing Martin has an EU pᴀssport, I’m fairly certain he’ll be relocating here once I’ve finished with him.’

Martin said he was ‘really looking forward to all the sights, sounds, tastes, people and experiences Neil’s lined up for me in France’.

‘Most of all I’m looking forward to spending a great deal of time with my old mate Neil, who I’ve grown to miss more than ever since he’s absconded to a country which he claims has the best scenery, food and wine on earth – is he right?’, he added

‘I intend to find out by devouring the lot of it and seeing what I can remember afterwards.’

Neil replaced Harry Enfield on Men Behaving Badly, starring opposite Martin Clunes, Caroline Quentin and Lesley Ash.

The pair previously treated fans to reprisal of their roles in 2014 for a one-off comedy sketch for Channel 4’s Feeling Nuts in aid of testicular cancer, after 15 years away from screens.

The lovable rogues of the nineties Gary Strang and Tony Smart returned for a one-off comedy sketch – which saw model Abbey Clancy make a cameo – that saw them discussing the pitfalls of modern dating while drinking cans on their iconic sofa.
