Adolescence writer confirms there IS an answer to the Netflix drama’s remaining unsolved mystery as fans are ‘left hanging’ after final episode

Adolescence’s writer has confirmed that there IS an answer to the Netflix drama’s biggest unsolved mystery that ‘left fans hanging’ after the final episode.

The crime drama, which is written and created by Stephen Graham and Jack Thorne, has made headlines over the past week since landing on the streamer on March 13.

This is thanks to the incredible cast, the fact each episode was filmed in one consecutive sH๏τ, and how it has brought misogyny among young boys to light.

But the four-part show has left viewers with a number of questions – including where the knife is.

Jack Thorne told ᴅᴇᴀᴅline: ‘There is a real joy in how partial this show was able to be. It was written in a really partial way, we couldn’t cover all corners.

‘For instance, episode two has a whole question going through it, of where is the knife? That’s why DI Luke Bascombe (Ashley Walters) is there.

Many viewers have wanted to know where the knife is that killed Jamie Miller's (Owen Cooper, pictured) female classmate

Many viewers have wanted to know where the knife is that killed Jamie Miller’s (Owen Cooper, pictured) female classmate

‘We cannot answer that. We don’t answer that.

‘I could have tried to fit it into dialogue in episode three, but that would have felt inauthentic and wrong.’

He added: ‘The audience understands the rhythm that we’re in as dramatists.

‘An audience has certain expectations as to what will happen when that has been embedded in the backs of their heads through watching drama as long as we all have.

‘What this show can do through the one-sH๏τ format is challenge those expectations in a different way.’

Adolescence follows the story of a schoolboy called Jamie, who is arrested for the murder of his female classmate.

Some fans spotted a major clue that ‘gives away’ Jamie’s fate just minutes into the groundbreaking Netflix drama.

One took to TikTok to point out something that has blown a lot of viewers’ minds.

They shared a clip from the first episode, when the police burst into Jamie’s family home to arrest him for the murder and Jamie is in bed in his bedroom.

The schoolboy looks scared as the police surround him and he places his hand on the wall, where part of the wallpaper has come off, and some think that the mark looks like a knife.

Recently the future of the show was ‘revealed’ after the series broke streaming records.

Adolescence reached 24.3million views in just the first four days of its release – and many have begged for another season.

A source told The Sun: ‘Execs are thrilled by the results and acclaim for Adolescence, it’s seen as a format that can run and run, at least to a second series if not further, as it could take in a different teen issue each series.

‘The topic has resonated with viewers because it taps into parents biggest fear and there’s plenty of scope for more in the same vein.

‘Stylistically, the one-take creative approach could become the hallmark of the series. It’s one of the aspects which has got everyone talking.’
