Adolescence break out star Owen Cooper reveals ‘minging’ detail while filming THAT tense episode with Erin Doherty

Adolescence break out star Owen Cooper has revealed a ‘minging’ detail from filming the hit Netflix show.

The young actor, 15, has received huge praise for his performance as 13-year-old Jamie Miller who is accused of murder.

One episode which has seen the most acclaim is the third, where Owen’s character Jamie is interviewed by a psychiatrist (Erin Doherty).

But Owen has now revealed that there was one aspect of filming that scene, which was done in one take much like the other instalments, that he didn’t enjoy.

Watching back a clip of him drinking a cup of H๏τ chocolate in the scene alongside Erin, Owen said: ‘That was minging that. That was horrible.’

‘What the actual drink?’ Erin asked, to which Owen replied: ‘Yeah. It wasn’t H๏τ chocolate ‘cos it had to get changed.

‘It was making the floor sticky or something for the cameraman.’

Erin said: ‘Oh yeah and I remember in one of them it spilt all over the table.

‘I could see people in the cameras that could see into the room like quickly trying to clean it up, so by the time the camera came back in. Right okay so they had to change it.’

‘Aw it was disgusting,’ Owen added.

Elsewhere in the interview for Netflix, Owen speaks about Jamie’s character progression in the third episode – where viewers see his vulnerability melt away and his anger peek through.

‘I think this is where you probably see what he’s actually like,’ Owen said.

Praising the young star, Erin said: ‘I still feel really sorry for you. It takes a craftsman to really kind of tow the line of anger and vulnerability.

‘The fact that you were able to feed those things in without making him a monster in any way is really impressive. And necessary in order for us as an audience to care about you.’

Owen has already filmed his next TV role, after the Netflix series made him famous overnight.

The actor is set to star in romantic comedy-drama Film Club, alongside White Lotus star Aimee Lou Wood (who plays Evie) and House of the Dragon star Ralph Davis. (who portrays Noa).

It will air later this year on BBC iPlayer and BBC Three, just months after the release of Adolescence.

The blurb explains: ‘For Evie, Film Club is her weekly escape – a chance to create a world of wonder, deck her mum’s garage out in whatever the movie calls for, and spend a few uninterrupted hours with her best friend Noa.

‘It’s Friday night. 7pm. Film Club Week 198. Evie hasn’t left the house in six months after a ‘wobble’, and tonight, things are different.

‘Noa’s got big news. A dream job is taking him across the other side of the country, which means that all of this is ending. That reality is hitting.

‘That they’re going to be forced to consider for the first time they might be more than just friends.

‘Neither of them are the best when it comes to emotions but this time those emotions might be impossible to ignore…

‘As if life weren’t challenging enough already, Evie is going to be navigating this amongst the eccentricity of her family home – living with her fiercely loving single mum Suz, sister Izzie, and handsome boyfriend/sometime man of the house Josh.

‘Film Club is a witty and emotional show about love and family, about whether we should follow our hearts or heads, and being in love with a friend.’
