Dakota Johnson gets steamy with Pedro Pascal before breaking down in tears as she’s caught up in a love triangle in the new trailer for her romance movie Materialists

Dakota Johnson finds herself torn between Pedro Pascal and Chris Evans in the new trailer for her romance movie Materialists.

The actress, 35, portrays a matchmaker who balances her relationship with a wealthy man (Pedro) with her lingering feelings for her waiter-actor ex-boyfriend (Chris).

The clip sees Dakota’s character Lucy getting steamy between the sheets with Pedro, who plays wealthy Randy, as their romance H๏τs up.

However, the course of true love never runs smooth as Lucy is later seen breaking down in tears as she’s embroiled in a tricky love triangle with Randy and ex John (Chris).

Materialists is a follow up to writer-director Celine Songs’ Oscar-nominated Past Lives and sees Lucy’s professional life grow complicated after her own love life is thrust into the spotlight.

On the same night she meets potential new lover Randy at an event, she coincidentally reconnects with her ex John, who is working as a waiter.

As the trailer continues, trouble begins when both Randy and John begin vying for Lucy’s affections,  leaving her torn.

At one point, John questions his ex Lucy if she intends on marrying Randy, with the latter seemingly wanting to make things official with the matchmaker.

Lucy’s quandary even puts a strain on her confidence in her career as she remarks: ‘I don’t think I’m very good at my job anymore’.

The official synopsis for the movie reads: ‘A young, ambitious New York City matchmaker finds herself torn between the perfect match and her imperfect ex’.

The film also stars Marin Ireland, Louisa Jacobson, Zoe Winters, Sawyer Spielberg and Dasha Nekrasova.

Materialists opens in cinemas on June 13 2025.

Dakota’s latest cinema offering comes after she admitted last year that she was not surprised her movie Madame Web bombed at the box office.

She told Bustle: ‘Unfortunately, I’m not surprised that this has gone down the way it has,’ she said.

‘But it was definitely an experience for me to make that movie. I had never done anything like it before. I probably will never do anything like it again, because I don’t make sense in that world. And I know that now.’

She continued: ‘Sometimes in this industry, you sign on to something, and it’s one thing and then as you’re making it, it becomes a completely different thing, and you’re like, “Wait, what?”

‘But it was a real learning experience, and of course it’s not nice to be a part of something that’s ripped to shreds, but I can’t say that I don’t understand.’

The $80 million production was slammed by critics and viewers alike following its release on Valentine’s Day.

Dakota continued in her rant: ‘It’s so hard to get movies made, and in these big movies that get made — and it’s even starting to happen with the little ones which is what’s really freaking me out — decisions are being made by committees, and art does not do well when it’s made by committees.’

She upset her Sony production team when she made the disparaging remarks about the superhero film’s lackluster performance.

‘Lots of people at Sony are questioning her star power, and how she reacted to this failure will likely come back to haunt her,’ an insider told DailyMail.com.

By early March Madame Web had grossed a meager $40 million at the domestic box office and taking in a measly $15.1 million during its opening weekend.
