It has faced many trials and tribulations over its 65-year run as the beating heart of Coronation Street, even being burned down on two occasions. 

And the iconic Rovers Return pub is now embroiled in a fresh controversy, after die-hard fans of the ITV soap noticed something very wrong with the boozer. 

The bar, which has been present throughout the show’s 11,000+ episode run, used to have just one external window above the famous green sign.

Since Corrie’s move to a new set at MediaCityUK in Salford in 2014, however, the Rovers has obtained another upstairs window, which has incredibly gone undetected among viewers during the thousands of episodes aired in the last decade.

One X user has now picked up on the continuity error and a string of fans have since expressed their amazement on social media.

The eagle-eyed viewer said: ‘The fact it’s never been explained “In-Universe” as to how the Rovers just obtained an extra window and, subsequently, bedroom. What the TARDIS?’

A fan replied: ‘The way the smaller version was always rammed too [heartbreak emoji]’ 

Another added: ‘The new one is abysmal! I’m surprised there’s not an echo in it.’ 

A third posted: ‘Years ago the stairs in the Rovers went the other way & also all of a sudden there is an exit into the smoking area, that was never there. The snug has gone & I believe there are only 2 doors one to the cellar & one to the ladies it’s like there isn’t a gents.’ 

One viewer said: ‘Probably the same reason as to why it’s never been explained as to why you can now fit 2 cars down the street when you could only get 1 down, or why the street has got longer..’ 

Another posted: ‘They should never have demolished the old set. There was so much history which has now all been destroyed. So sad especially when you see the old set is now just a poxy car park. What a waste.’

A sixth added: ‘Did they get planning permission for a new window and an extra bedroom?’

On Sunday, Coronation Street star Claire Sweeney defended her character’s villainous behaviour, after she tried to poison the soap’s ‘national treasure’ Ken Barlow.

The actress, 53, has played Tyrone Dobbs’ long lost mother Cᴀssie Palmer on the soap since 2023, and in recent months, viewers have seen her slowly drug Ken under the ruse of being his carer.

Cᴀssie, a drug addict, had befriended Ken after he suffered a fall, and convinced him to hire her as a carer.

But all the while Ken’s children grew suspicious of Cᴀssie’s intentions, and it was soon revealed she had been crushing up tablets to put in his drinks.

Her behaviour was soon exposed by Tracy Barlow, with Cᴀssie being sensationally sacked by Ken after he also spotted her trying to spike his tea with drugs,

In the midst of the dramatic storyline, Claire appeared on Sunday’s edition of Alan тιтchmarsh’s Love Your Weekend, where the actress tried to defend Cᴀssie’s actions.

After a clip was played of Cᴀssie’s sinister actions, host Alan said: ‘Little does he [Ken] know what’s in his cup!’

Claire replied: ‘I know, I’m the smiling ᴀssᴀssin there, aren’t I? I mean, Ken Barlow, a national treasure!’

‘And you to bump him off Claire,’ Alan remarked before the actress began to explain the story behind her character.

She said: ‘Well, do you know what, I mean, you can’t soften it can you when you’re spiking a national treasure’s cup of tea.

‘But that was a tablet there and then I go on to [use] antihistamines with him.’

A shocked Alan gasped ‘gosh’ as Claire added: ‘So it’s just really to keep him a little bit sleepy so he needs me. That’s what it is.’

Moving his cup out of Claire’s reach, a laughing Alan quipped: ‘I’m just going to put my tea out of your way!’

As the interview came to an end, Alan unsubtly tried to find out from Claire what was going to happen to Ken. 

He added: ‘I don’t know whether you’ll be bumping anybody else off or succeed in bumping Ken and I don’t suppose you know either and if you did, you wouldn’t tell me would you?’

But a coy Claire said: ‘I don’t know. Surprise a minute isn’t it?’
