Michelle Trachtenberg’s life and legacy was honored at a recent screening of her final film — just over two weeks after her tragic death at age 39.

The actress was discovered ᴅᴇᴀᴅ at her apartment in New York City on February 26 after undergoing a liver transplant last year. 

Trachtenberg — known for her roles in Ice Princess (2005) and the hit CW series Gossip Girl — was reportedly plagued by escalating health issues in her final days.

But on Wednesday, Trachtenberg was remembered by Spyral producer Jennifer Hutchins for the ‘difference’ she made in people’s lives both on and off screen.

She delivered the moving tribute before a screening of the documentary at SXSW Festival in Austin, Texas, which Trachtenberg had planned to attend before her death.

‘I had the pleasure to work with Michelle on Spyral. I never thought…,’ began a visibly emotional Hutchins, according to PEOPLE.

‘I never thought when I would start this journey that this film would become her last film.’

In the wake of Trachtenberg’s pᴀssing, Hutchins revealed that she was contacted by the ‘national press,’ who pushed her for details about the star’s health and well-being on set of the 2024 film.

But instead of airing out her personal struggles, Hutchins said she wanted to remember Trachtenberg’s performance in Spyral and how she believes it made ‘a difference with mental health awareness.’

Trachtenberg was cast to read excerpts from the diary of Randall White’s late wife Michelle Cody White, who struggled with undiagnosed bipolar depression, in the doc.

She recorded the voiceover in 2021, but Spyral didn’t premiere until 2024 due to the covid-19 pandemic, TMZ previously reported.

‘She voiced over Michelle Cody White, whose life story, the movie Spyral is about. And being in the room with her, she became Michelle Cody White,’ Hutchins told the audience on Wednesday.

She said Trachtenberg’s voiceover was so impactful that it brought the film’s crew to tears.

‘We all had to take breaks, we all had to wipe away the tears, and you can hear her breath, you can hear the shakes as she’s reading very intimate letters, diaries and journals from Michelle Cody White.’

Before the start of the screening, Hutchins held a moment of silence for Trachtenberg and warned that Spyral is a ‘hard movie to watch.’

‘Before we do this, we are going to do a 45-second silence for Michelle,’ the producer said. 

Wednesday’s screening, which was tweaked last-minute to pay tribute to Trachtenberg, was held in support of mental health nonprofits.

The Spyral production team is also vying for a public distribution deal in hopes to give the project a wide release. 

Speaking to TMZ last month, Hutchins described Trachtenberg as ‘one of the sweetest, most gentle human beings I’ve ever had the pleasure to know.’

She added, ‘I could tell she cared deeply about people and using her voice for the greater good.’

Hutchins’s tribute to Trachtenberg at the screening comes less than two weeks after the actress was shockingly omitted from the In Memoriam segment at the Oscars.

Fans also singled out the Academy for leaving out late entertainers Tony Todd, Shannen Doherty, Martin Mull and Linda Lavin from the tribute to those in the industry who had pᴀssed away since last year’s event. 

‘Did they really not even include Michelle Trachtenberg in the ‘In Memoriam’ for tonight’s Oscars??? That’s icky,’ said one user of the New York City native, who stepped back from show business in recent years due to her reported health issues.

Said one viewer: ‘It’s shameful that the #Oscars didn’t include Michelle Trachtenberg in their memorial montage of all the actors/actresses who have pᴀssed within the year!!!!’

Another user said, ‘Ohhh…F*** YOU #Oscars for not putting Michelle Trachtenberg in the memorial.’ while one upset viewer wrote, ‘NO MICHELLE TRACHTENBERG?!?!?? Go to Hell #Oscars.’

One user admitted they were surprised at the omission: ‘Did they really not even include Michelle Trachtenberg in the ‘In Memoriam’ for tonight’s Oscars??? That’s icky.’

Trachtenberg gained fame in the 1996 Harriet the Spy film and later appeared n a pair of popular TV shows – Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Gossip Girl.

Among the other motion pictures Trachtenberg had appeared in included 1999’s Inspector Gadget, 2004’s EuroTrip, 2006’s Black Christmas and 2009’s 17 Again.

The New York Police Department said in a statement that officers responding to an apartment building in the Hell´s Kitchen neighborhood of Manhattan found the actress ‘unconscious and unresponsive’ amid their response to a 911 call on February 26.

Trachtenberg had been pronounced ᴅᴇᴀᴅ at the scene of the incident, authorities said, adding that foul play was not suspected to be a factor in the star’s pᴀssing.

Trachtenberg’s official cause of death will never be known after her family objected to an autopsy, according to Page Six.

Her family was able to object to the procedure on religious grounds.

It was previously reported that Trachtenberg had undergone a liver transplant in the past year, and an insider told the publication that she didn’t hide the fact from those closest to her.

‘She was very open with those close to her about having the transplant,’ a friend claimed, before clarifying that she ‘never went into detail’ about the procedure.

Others close to the Harriet The Spy star revealed that she had spent significant time in the hospital before being released early this year.

‘The last time I saw her, something felt off,’ an industry insider told US Weekly. ‘You could sense something was going on. She was really frail and had been sick for a while.’

One person who said they saw Trachtenberg at the Soho restaurant Sartiano’s on February 20, less than a week before her death, said that ‘something seemed off about her.’

A neighbor in Trachtenberg’s apartment building also told the publication that the actress — who looked increasingly gaunt in selfies posted to her instagram in her final weeks — was looking more and more ‘svelte’ toward the end of her life.
