Sugababes have revealed a shocking change to their band as they reunited with a new single on Thursday – and lifted the lid on which artist inspired them to do it.
The trio, formed of Keisha Buchanan, Mutya Buena and Siobhán Donaghy have just released their new track Jungle – marking their first single in two years.
However, ahead of the ‘new chapter,’ the girl group have made a big change by parting ways with their label and going independent.
It comes after they previously released When The Rain comes back in 2023 on major record label BMG.
In a new interview with The Sun, the girls explained their reasoning behind the big decision and made reference to another artist who has found success by doing the same thing.
Mutya said: ‘We have so many ideas and so much experience. We know what we want.’

Siobhan chimed in with: ‘The people at the labels, they don’t necessarily have as much experience as we might have. You know what you want to achieve.
‘I think someone like Raye has been really important at getting that message across. She knew who she was and she knew what kind of record she wanted to make.’
The group admitted that while they had labels who ‘understood’ them when they first entered the industry, finding something like that is now ‘few and far between’.
Raye’s recent success comes after she parted ways with her former label, Polydor, and released her critically acclaimed debut My 21st Century Blues as an independent artist.
Her journey from musical obscurity to global pop star reached new heights last year as she made history by sensationally winning six Brit awards.
She was nominated seven times – the most ever for a single artist in a year – but couldn’t possibly have won more than she did as she was shortlisted twice for song of the year – for Escapism, which won the тιтle, and for Prada.
The songwriter’s success represents one of music’s greatest ever comebacks, coming just three years after her former record label Polydor refused to release any of her albums.
She referenced her new beginning in her Best New Artist Speech as she quipped: ‘I have to thank my mum and my dad who are also part of my team, and my grandma. Yes grandma! I, in ways, do feel like a new artist.
‘I released my first song when I was 15, my first mixtape when I was 16, don’t go and listen to it because it’s not that good any more.

‘But I do feel like a new artist, I got to start again. The artist I was three years ago would not believe what she’s seeing today. I’m my own boss now, I’m in control. Thank you!’
Inspired, the Sugababes have shared their elation at their new song as they said in a statement: ‘We are so excited to release ‘Jungle’ and cement this new chapter for us, after what has been an incredible 3 years on the road.
‘As soon as it was written, it felt like the perfect thing for people to hear first. A song about escaping the 9-5 grind, we hope everyone can let their inner animal out when they hear this!’
The single – produced by Jon Shave (the man behind Charli XCX’s Grammy winning BRAT album) – mixes the girls’ unmistakable harmonies with a blend of 2 step, garage and alt-pop.
Meanwhile, the Sugababes have been writing new material with none other that Little Mix star Jade Thirlwall, now simply known as JADE.
In a new interview, the Round Round hitmakers revealed that they’ve so far recorded a verse and a chorus on the track for the singer, but the project has yet to be completed.
Speaking to NME about about presenting JADE with her BRIT Award for Best Pop Act recently, Keisha shared: ‘It was lovely, and we actually had a writing session with her a couple of weeks ago, which was cool.
Siobhán the asked her bandmate whether they had heard the track back yet, to which Keisha replied: ‘Yeah, I heard it back the other day. I mean, it wasn’t completely finished. We just did a verse and chorus, but it’s definitely got something.’
On writing with JADE, Siobhán added: ‘The whole thing was very relaxed: a no pressure situation. You [Keisha] were putting on your makeup to go out and JADE was putting on her makeup to go out, and we were all just writing. It felt exciting.

Meanwhile, the girls have set their sights on taking to the coveted Pyramid stage at Glastonbury, noting how it is ‘definitely on out wish list’.
However, Keisha notes that she’d like the girls to have some new hits under their belts first so that they don’t appear to just be another nostalgic act.
She added that she wants their set to feel ‘fresh and new’ and for them to be ‘relevant’, adding that the girls hate the word ‘reunion’ as it’s not ‘where they’re at’.
The band are hitting the road for a their biggest ever UK and European tour next month, kicking off on April 8 in Leeds and wrapping in Milan in May.
Keisha, Mutya and Siobhan formed the iconic girl band in 1998.
However, the lineup saw several shake-ups after Siobhan left in 2001, replaced by Heidi Range – with Mutya and Keisha eventually being replaced in the mid-2000s by Amelle Berrabah and Jade Ewen, respectively.
The trio won back the rights to their name in 2019 and have since gone on to huge success with a plethora of sold out shows in both in the UK and internationally.
