Emma Stone and Margaret Qualley’s viral heated exchange at the 2025 Oscars has finally been deciphered.

Double Oscar winner Stone, 36, and The Substance star Qualley, 30, were seen seemingly squaring off amid the March 2 ceremony in a shock video, with aghast fans questioning what they were speaking about.

Lipreader Nicola Hickling exclusively told DailyMail.com of the exchange: ‘It looks like Margaret is about to square up in this scene, giving Emma her mean girl look.

‘Don’t worry, they are not fighting though. They do this all the time.

‘In fact, Margaret says to Emma “Yeah and I am about to freak out.”

As the chat took place, Qualley’s husband Jack Antonoff, 40, was seen looking on in shock.

Fans quickly took to social media to rave about the interaction, with one writing: ‘Am I the only one thinking they’re going to fight 

‘For a moment i thought Margaret was ready to square up.

Referring to her The Substance alterego, others said: ‘Sue was taking over!’ 

‘She was straight pressin her. Idc what no one says.

‘Omg with no sound on it looks like there gonna fight so bad like Margaret kept walking towards Emma and looked like she was mad saying REALLY REALLY and other lady looked like she was tryna stop them.

Others noted that the actresses often  have playful spats on the red carpet, saying: ‘Just so you all know, they do this at almost every awards show they go to. It’s their inside joke. Do some research before commenting on what you do not know people

Stone and Qualley are known for bringing dramatics to the red carpet and during the 2024 awards season circuit were also seen having an intense chat in front of pH๏τographers. 

Elsewhere during the evening, Antonoff’s stunned reaction to Qualley’s co-star Demi Moore losing the Best Actress Oscar to Anora’s Mikey Madison also went viral. 

Antonoff, who was seated behind Moore, appeared momentarily confounded as Mikey’s name was announced before turning to his wife.

The moment did not go unnoticed by various eagle-eyed fans, with one video of his reaction going viral on X and achieving over two million views.

‘GUYS WHO HAS THE CLIP OF EMMA ANNOUNCING MIKEY MADISON’S NAME? I NEED TO SHOW YOU JACK ANTONOFF BEING CONFUSED IN THE BACKGROUND OF DEMI MOORE’S CAM,’ one X user posted with a sobbing emoji. 

Moore has since broken her silence on the Oscars loss with video of her glamorous awards show prep. 

She congratulated Mikey on the achievement, adding she can’t ‘wait to see what you do next.’

‘As this awards season comes to a close, I’m so overwhelmed with graтιтude for this journey,’ she captioned the Instagram reel. ‘It’s been the ride of a lifetime and we’re just getting started! So grateful for my team, my fellow nominees, and everyone who has made this experience so full of joy and light.’

She gave Substance director Coralie Fargeat and co-star Margaret shout-outs, calling it an ‘honor’ to have worked on the film with them.
