An iconic game show is just days away from returning to screens with the longest ever run of episodes.

The second series of Jeopardy! hosted by Stephen Fry, 67, is set to air on March 17.

The original Jeopardy! was first broadcast by Channel 4 back in 1983 with Derek Hobson taking the wheel.

It moved channels several times before leaving screens completely in 1996.

The game show was revived last year with a successful first series on ITV and launched with 2.5million viewers and ended its run with an average over 1.6 million.

Now, the second instalment will see 25 hour-long episodes of contestants’ general knowledge being tested and always delivering their answer as a question.

Stephen said: ‘Thrilled to be back at the Jeopardy! lectern for another series.

‘Aside from the sheer entertainment value of the format, it’s especially wonderful to see contestants from all over the country revealing such wonderful, varied knowledge and quick wits.

He finished: ‘Thanks to ITV and to our audience. Here’s hoping the second series finds new devotees and unearths more astonishing contestants.’

Sunil Patel, CEO of Whisper, the production company behind Jeopardy, previously said: ‘Jeopardy! is a cultural phenomenon in the US and now, thanks to the brilliant talent of Stephen Fry and the skill of our amazing production team, it has become a fixture in living rooms across the UK.

‘I’m delighted the show is being recommissioned. Jeopardy! is legendary and to be delivering it to a new generation of UK quiz fans on ITV is something very special…’

Earlier this year, Stephen shared a rare tribute to his husband Elliot Spencer on their 10th wedding anniversary in a sweet Instagram post.

Stephen and Elliot, who were last pictured together almost six years ago, tend to keep their marriage very private.

In a sweet insight into their happy marriage, the broadcaster gushed ‘I’m a lucky man’ in the caption alongside the black and white pH๏τo from their wedding day.

He wrote: ‘Ten happy years to the day since we were joined in marriage. I’m a lucky man.’
