Prue Leith is left red faced after ’embarrᴀssing’ hearing aid blunder as she reveals she is going deaf

Prue Leith has revealed she has started to wear hearing aids after ‘struggling to be able to hear’.

The Great British Bake Off judge, 85, spoke at the Cambridge Union to students in a Q&A on Monday where she was forced to interrupt the conversation as she ‘really couldn’t hear at all’.

Prue was left red faced after she admitted she had forgotten to put the hearing devices in.

She said: ‘Sorry, I am a bit deaf so I am struggling to hear a bit.

‘This is so embarrᴀssing because I really can’t hear at all. My husband is so cross with me as I have just been given some hearing aids and I never remember to put them in. I am so sorry.’

Prue previously revealed that her late mother struggled to wear hearing aids as she got them too late in life.

Writing in The Telegraph, the Channel 4 star said in 2021: ‘This is a really common problem. When my mother was in her 80s, she was beginning to go deaf and senile at the same time.

‘She was convinced we all mumbled, and actors didn’t speak clearly anymore. The problem was that we’d left it too late.

‘By the time we’d persuaded her to wear hearing aids, she’d forget what they were, fish one out shouting, “What’s this thing doing in my ear?” and hurl all two grand’s worth across the room.’

Elsewhere during the chat with the students, Prue warned them that they might not like what she was planning to tell them.

‘Whatever I say, I am likely to offend people, but I am going to say it,’ she declared.

‘I think there is a real problem with mental health post-Covid.

‘There is no question. Lots of young people are struggling – they just can’t cope with modern life.

‘But I think a lot of that may be due to the fact that we have put such a lot of emphasis on sort of “me, me, me”.

‘Like, “How is my mental health? How is my wellbeing? Have I got enough time?”

‘We are encouraging a whole generation to think about themselves all the time. If they thought about other people a bit more, maybe it would be better.’

She added: ‘There is a danger of mollycoddling and becoming unhealthy. That’s not a very popular thing to say.’

Dame Prue, who founded Leith’s School of Food And Wine, which trains professional chefs and amateur cooks, has some advice for young people: ‘The most important thing is never to be bored.

‘When you are young, you think it is quite cool as you are shy and unsure. It is really disastrous.

‘So don’t be bored. It is a sin to be bored. If you are sat at a dinner party next to some old codger and he is going on about his greenhouse, then question it.’

It comes after Prue commanded attention as she modelled a dramatic pink gown on the catwalk at the VIN + OMI show during London Fashion Week last month.

The Great British Bake Off star, proved age is just a number as she stormed the runway in the long dress which boasted shoulder pads and a large collar.

Prue looked sensational as she elevated her frame in a pair of black sandals and accessorised with a pair of sunglᴀsses.

The restaurateur completed her stylish look with a pair of her signature colourful drop earrings.

It is not the first time Prue has walked for the brand as last year she completely ditched her colourful ensembles and quirky glᴀsses for a bold striking look.

She made sure all eyes were on her as she wore a dramatic all leather look.

Beaming in snaps, the тιԍнт fitted PVC midi dress featured raunchy red lace up detailing and exaggerated wide shoulders.
