Oscars 2025 ratings were revealed to be up despite initial reports indicating otherwise amid woke nominees, Demi Moore’s shock snub, and even being dubbed the most boring ceremony ever.

The 97th Academy Awards hit a five year high at 19.96million viewers across both ABC and Hulu according to Nielsen’s final same-day ratings which includes streaming.

This came hours after an initial press release from Disney in which they stated they drew just 18.07 across both streaming and traditional television. 

The company noted that the discrepancy came down to evolving viewing patterns leading to a greater difference between fast national ratings and the actual final reporting.

The latest numbers indicate a near half million increase for a 1percent increase from last year’s 19.5million viewers which was a four year high.

Things have been trending up annually as there has been a steady incline as the 2021 Oscars – which did not have a host – had an audience of 10.4 million then viewership jumped up quite a bit at 16.6million for the 2022 ceremony in which Will Smith famously slapped Chris Rock.

The latest number is just under the 2023 show which earned 18.8million viewers.

One contributing factor for the lower ratings could have been the actual length of the ceremony as at 3 hours and 47 minutes, it was one of the longest Oscars on record.

There were also mᴀssive technical issues on the streaming side as Hulu has issued an apology after its live stream of the Oscars 2025 glitched at the most critical moment, impacting thousands of subscribers across the country.

The streaming service went blank shortly after Sean Baker secured his third Academy Award of the night for Best Director.

This meant that thousands of frustrated viewers were unable to see 25-year-old Mikey Madison win Best Actress and Anora secure the top prize of the night, Best Picture.

Addressing the catastrophic glitch, a Disney spokesperson told DailyMail.com: ‘We experienced technical and live stream issues on Hulu which impacted some Oscars viewers.

‘We apologize for the experience and will make a full replay of the event available as soon as possible.’

It was a disastrous evening for Hulu subscribers, who also faced ‘pixilation, freezes and crashes’ throughout the three-hour show hosted by Conan O’Brien.

The broadcast was blasted by many including DailyMail.com columnist Maureen Callahan who called it the worst awards show ever.

The columnist wrote: ‘Just when you thought Hollywood couldn’t get more pretentious, out-of-touch and in love with itself, the Sunday’s show somehow surmounted the odds.

‘So movies and movie stars shrink further and further into oblivion, killed by DEI mandates — Best Picture nominees have to now hit two of four requirements — wokeism, and insufferable self-regard.’

Fellow DailyMail.com columnist Kennedy was also not a fan of Oscars this year as she trashed Adrien Brody’s gum toss.

She wrote: ‘As Adrien Brody walked to the stage to accept his Best Actor award for his role in ‘The Brutalist,’ he suddenly stopped – spit his chewing gum into his hand – and tossed it to his partner, Harvey Weinstein-ex, Georgina Chapman.

‘Gross! But I guess she’s had something far more wretched in her hands.

‘Apparently, she’ll take anything to get into the front row at the Oscars.’
