Ferne McCann reveals she is still breastfeeding daughter Finty at 20 months as she admits being ‘nervous’ to share her journey

Ferne McCann has revealed she is still breastfeeding her daughter Finty who is 20 months old as she encouraged other women that there is no ‘normal’.

The former TOWIE star, 34, took to her Instagram page on Monday with a very candid message – admitting she felt ‘nervous’ to share her journey.

Using her platform to advocate for breastfeeding, the Dancing On Ice star shared a sweet snap feeding Finty, captioning: ‘Haven’t posted about my breastfeeding journey in a while, but I still get a lot of people asking if I’m still doing it.

‘In complete honesty, I’ve been a bit nervous to share about it lately.

‘Even though I’m such a big advocate for breastfeeding, the truth is, I’ve been afraid of what people might think or say now that Finty is 20 months old.

‘I’m sharing this because if you’re like me and still feeding, and you’re feeling pressure to stop or wondering if it’s ‘not the norm’ to breastfeed past one, I just want you to know…there are plenty of mums still doing it.

‘Keep going, mamma. However it looks do your normal.’

Ferne welcomed Finty with her fiancé Lorri Haines in July 2023 and was previously raising her six-year-old daughter Sunday as a single parent.

Previously on her social media platform, the reality star revealed that her breastfeeding journey had been difficult and praised everyone who had supported her along the way.

She said that it had taken ‘a whole football team’ for her to reach the point she was at now and revealed her pride at breastfeeding her baby girl.

Ferne praised her ‘supportive partner’ Lorri and her mother for helping her out and the online community she had turned to when she had been struggling.

In the full caption of an Instagram post from last August, she wrote: ‘The subject of this year’s World Breastfeeding Campaign, ‘Closing the Gap and Support for All,’ has made me realise that I wouldn’t be where I am with my breastfeeding journey if it weren’t for the support from others.

‘It has taken a whole football team to reach the point where we are now.

‘Lack of support is one of the main reasons why mothers don’t continue. It’s vital!

‘I know I wouldn’t still be breastfeeding Finty or even have gotten past the first few difficult months without these people. So today, I wanted to recognise all the people who supported us.

‘From the osteopath who did cranial therapy on Finty to loosen her jaw and help improve her latch, to the lactation consultant who helped me with Finty’s latch when she was born, to the incredible community midwives who want all mothers to succeed and make no question seem too silly to ask.

‘To my mum, who has been there for us through everything, nothing is ever too much. Having a supportive partner who understands how much breastfeeding means to me and, in those difficult times and long nights, encourages me to keep going.

And to the amazing breastfeeding community online and on social media, thank you.

‘It’s never plain sailing when posting about breastfeeding. I understand it can upset some people, and please know that my intentions are never to make mothers feel inadequate or that they’ve failed.

‘I salute every mother as I know it’s the toughest job in the world. It’s only ever to encourage, inspire, and show support for the breastfeeding community.

‘Because that’s what it’s all about: supporting one another.’

‘Her heartfelt post comes just days after she celebrated her daughter’s first birthday on Saturday with an adorable video of her little one.’

Ferne’s post detailing her struggles with breastfeeding follows a post from back in February of last year.

The campaigner offered fans and followers support in their breastfeeding journey and lamented the low breastfeeding rates in the UK.

Ferne referenced statistics that the UK has one of the lowest breastfeeding rates in the world and urged her followers to seek support, even offering up her inbox for followers looking for help with their own breastfeeding journey.

She wrote: ‘Breast feeding isn’t an option for some mums (and it is such a personal decision!), but it’s really sad to know that one of the biggest hurdles for mums wanting to give it a try is lack of support.’
