Who Wants To Be A Millionaire fans left shocked by unexpected outcome to Phone A Friend lifeline

Who Wants To Be A Millionaire fans were left shocked when a contestant’s friend gave her the correct answer despite insisting that she ‘didn’t know’.

The most recent installment of the ITV show, which hit screens on Sunday night, saw Diana England take to the H๏τ seat in a bid to win £1 million.

The production manager bagged £16,000 before getting stuck on one question and had to use some of her lifelines.

Host Jeremy Clarkson, 64, asked: ‘The national flag of Ireland is a near mirror image of that of which African country?’

The answers included Côte d’Ivoire, Ghana, Egypt and Kenya.

Diana had no idea and used her Ask the Host lifeline, and unfortunately Jeremy apologised because he didn’t know either.

She then picked her Phone a Friend lifeline and called her pal Julian.

Julian told Diana: ‘I don’t know Diana, sorry.

‘But Cote d’Ivoire has the same flag as Ireland. I dunno if that’s got any help, I don’t think it’s Kenya and I don’t think it’s Eygpt.

‘I’m sorry that’s the best I can do.’

Diana replied: ‘Okay Jules, thank you.’

As soon as she put the phone down, Jeremy pointed out: ‘He literally said I can’t help you and then appeared to be of mᴀssive ᴀssistance.

‘Literally no idea… but here’s the answer. Now listen…  I would hate to be in your shoes now.’

‘I’ve known him a long time and that’s typical,’ Diana said.  ‘He’s a funny man in many ways.’

Diana told Jeremy that she was going to have to take the money and she left the studio with £16,000.

Jeremy asked: ‘Before you go what do you think the answer was?

She put forward the answer Côte d’Ivoire.

‘See if you’d have said that, you’d have had £32,000,’ Jeremy told her.

A gutted Diana couldn’t hide her emotions and shared how disappointed she was.

Who Wants To Be A Millionaire Celebrity Special airs on ITV and is available to stream on ITVX.
