After decades in the limelight, Daphne Zuniga has fired back at society’s beauty standards in a shocking post.
On Wednesday, the Melrose Place star, 62, took to Instagram to share an old pH๏τo-shoot image from the 1990s marked up with editing notes, tearing apart her appearance.
In the stunning snap, Zuniga posed on a picturesque beach, exuding effortless beauty in a blue linen blouse.
But the handwritten annotations scribbled in red ink across her face and body told a different story.
Commands like ‘remove,’ ‘smooth,’ ‘clean up’ and ‘fill’ were scribbled over her features, critiquing everything from her skin texture to the thickness of her hair, and even the brightness of her eyes.
She boldly penned in the caption: ‘Cleaning out some boxes and I came across this pH๏τo for a magazine:) Clean her up! Smooth and remove and fix her! All for the natural look!!’

‘This really struck me,’ the star admitted.
The actress went on to recall how she relived this shocking experience while guest starring on the FX drama Nip/Tuck as character Carly Summers back in 2007.

‘I played a guest character on Nip Tuck where Julian did the same thing to her, drew on her of how to perfect her. It all makes me so tired. #magazine #pH๏τoshop,’ she wrote.
Zuniga’s fans flooded her comment section with support.
They applauded her for calling out the airbrushing culture that dominated the 90s forward.
‘Wow Daphne…thanks for sharing this reminder that none of us need retouching (then or now),’ one follower wrote. While another chimed in, ‘Very disheartening. You are a gorgeous woman inside and out ❤️ Makes me sick that this STILLLLLL goes on !!!’
Zuniga’s post comes after she opened up about how she learned to take control of her emotions in a healthy manner after struggling with anger ‘back in the day.’
‘When you have anger, and you don’t express it in a safe way without hurting anybody or yourself, it implodes, and you will take it out on yourself,’ she said during an appearance on the late Shannen Doherty’s Let’s Be Clear podcast.
She advised listeners in a snippet from the podcast shared on Friday: ‘So for me, back in the days when I was younger and going through a lot of this where I didn’t have the courage to express my truth because I didn’t want to be too needy, you will implode.’

‘You either eat too much drink, use something, take it out on loved ones or your organs, you know, you might get sick,’ she added.
‘You’re gonna create reasons to feel the anger. That anger, needs to be heard and met.’
Zuniga rose to fame at age 19, when she made her on-screen debut in the 1982 slasher film The Dorm That Dripped Blood.
She later gained major recognition from her role as Jo Reynolds on the Fox soap opera Melrose Place from 1992 to 1996.
Last year, she reunited with her former Melrose Place co-stars Courtney Thorne-Smith and Laura Leighton to launch their iHeart podcast Still The Place.
