Jessica Lange makes it to the Glasgow Film Festival red carpet after surprising fans at Scottish airport when she was caught up in flight delays

Jessica Lange wore a stylish velvet blazer as she arrived at Glasgow Film Festival on Friday after suffering a flight delay.

The legendary Hollywood actress, 75, is appearing in Long Days Journey Into Night with Ed Harris which premieres at the event but was held up on the runway at Dublin airport for over an hour.

Looking fresh despite the delay she was met in Glasgow Airport just after 1pm by onlookers who couldn’t believe there was a star in their midst.

Jessica was given a pH๏τograph of her late husband Sam Shephard by one eager fan who was thrilled to meet her as she made her way to her chauffeur driven car.

As she picked which pH๏τo she preferred from Jason Carroll who met Sam in November 2023, she said: ‘Thank you. Its great to be back in Scotland.’

Walking the red carpet later, the actress changed into a quirky suit that featured a brushed brown and blue style pattern.

Jessica topped off her outfit with a black satin T-shirt and added a pair of classy stiletto heels.

The star previously filmed Rob Roy in Scotland and her visit was perfectly timed to coincide with the thirtieth anniversary of the movie.

In the film she parted Mary Macgregor, the wife of Rob Roy MacGregor, then played by Liam Nieson.

Her appearances comes after the start of the fest which also saw a red carpet appearance by former costar Tim Roth and Damon Hill who is also premiering his documentary at the Glasgow event.

Martin Compston also made an appearance with his family at the twelve day long festival in the city.

Jessica’s upcoming film Long Days Journey Into Night is based on Eugene O’Neill’s play of the same name.

O’Neill’s Pulitzer Prize-winning play depicts a summer day in the life of the Tyrones, closely based on O’Neill’s own chaotically dysfunctional family.

Deeply moving and inspiring in equal measure, it’s a compelling story of love, hate, betrayal and addiction and the impossible fragility of family bonds.

In October, the King Kong actress revealed that she planned to retire from acting after more than four decades and many accolades.

Jessica first found fame in the 1976 King Kong remake, which earned her a Golden Globe Award despite the film’s mixed reviews.

Jessica has two Academy Awards for Best Actress to her name – for 1982’s Tootsie and 1994’s Blue Sky – as well as five Golden Globe wins.

But now, after 47 years on the silver screen, Jessica is planning to gradually phase out her roles.

She cited the reasons behind her decision to a lack of ‘creativity’ in the film industry as studios seek to increase profits over art.

In an interview with The Telegraph, she said: ‘Creativity is secondary now to corporate profits. The emphasis becomes not on the art or the storytelling. It becomes about satisfying your stockholders.

‘I’m not interested in these big comic-book franchise films. I think that they’ve sacrificed this art that we’ve been involved in… for the sake of profit.’
