Former Disney star Skai Jackson stepped out at the 2025 Essence Awards on Thursday looking spectacular.

The Man in the White Van star, 22, gave birth to her first child, a son named Kasai just one month ago.

Skai wore a black double-breasted vest and a tiered and pleated black miniskirt.

The bodice of her ensemble featured ʙuттons as well as a decorative chain linking two ʙuттons on her right shoulder. 

The Jessie star wore her raven hair half up and half down for dramatic effect and slipped her feet into a pair of black high heeled pumps. 

Skai shares her son with her boyfriend Deondre Burgin, also known as ‘Yerkky Yerkky’ on social media.

When Skai gave birth last month, her child’s father was in jail in Ohio where he’s been since November. 

Burgin was given a 90-day sentence after he violated his parole from an earlier theft and weapon possession case as a juvenile, TMZ reported.

Last week, Skai also attended the NAACP Image Awards where she talked about becoming a mother for the first time. 

‘I love being a new mom. It’s just so exciting. So exciting,’ she told People on the red carpet.

‘I’m here tonight, I’m already missing my baby. But it’s been a great month with my new little one.’ 

Skai was also asked about her support system, and said she has ‘such amazing support.’ 

‘So it’s not too bad. But he’s definitely giving me a run for my money,’ she joked about her newborn son. 

‘He’s such a big baby, eats so much… but it’s something that I love. I love seeing my baby every day.’

Jackson, best known for her role as Zuri Ross on the Disney Channel shows Jessie and Bunk’d, also said that her son has already taught her just how strong she is. 

She said: ‘I feel like now I can just do anything.’

‘I feel like being a mom and juggling everything probably has to be one of the hardest jobs, but it’s such a rewarding job because I’m doing it for him at the end of the day,’ she explained. 

‘So I definitely learned that about myself. I can just handle whatever at this point.’

Jackson’s pregnancy got off to a bumpy start when her boyfriend allegedly posted something vile on social media about her and their baby.

Just after she announced her pregnancy, a man going by ‘Yerkky Yerkky’ allegedly posted to Facebook: ‘On woop im salty i got this dumb a** Disney Chanel (sic) b**** pregnant I hate this h**.’

Blogger Tasha K posted the comment to her Instagram, prompting a fiery message from Jackson and her mother Kiya Cole.

Jackson insisted her love interest’s Facebook account had been hacked, writing in the comments section: ‘His page was hacked! He never said this. End of story.’

Her mother posted: ‘HE NEVER SAID THIS!!!! Stop being messy!!!’

The post no longer appears on the page and pH๏τos of a pregnant Jackson were shared to the account with a sweet smiling face with hearts emoji.

Her pregnancy announcement came several months after Jackson was arrested on suspicion of domestic battery but not charged.

In September it was revealed that the Los Angeles District Attorney’s office declined to file charges and dropped the case against her.

She was arrested on August 8 at Universal Studios CityWalk in Los Angeles, California after an alleged altercation with her boyfriend.

Police responded to a call from the theme park after security personnel detained Jackson for allegedly pushing her boyfriend.
