Shrek fans are all saying the same thing after the first teaser for the upcoming fifth film dropped on Thursday morning.

Fans don’t love the new animation style, accusing animators of changing the famous green ogre’s look too much and giving him lip filler, cheek implants and a face lift.

The clip shows Shrek and Donkey looking in a mirror as Donkey asks, ‘Hey Magic Mirror, who’s the fairest of them all?’

The mirror enthusiastically responds, ‘Why Shrek of course’ as it flashes pH๏τos of a much-more in-shape ogre.

Fiona and one of his daughters rush in as well as Pinocchio, whose nose grows as he tries to deny making the Sєxy images of Shrek.

The trailer then announces Mike Myers, Eddie Murphy and Cameron Diaz’s names as returning cast members, before acting surprised when it reveals that Zendaya is playing the red-headed teen daughter of the ogre couple.

While fans are delighted that the Euphoria star is joining the famous franchise, they were less than happy with the new animation style.

Others compared it to the 2019 Sonic controversy, which saw the blue hedgehog be redesigned after a wave of online criticism.

Taking to social media, long-time lovers of Shrek wrote on X: ‘This is beyond losing the sauce. this is straight up disrespectful to the original art style.’

‘I don’t know who this man is, but it ain’t Shrek.’ 

‘Can we bully dreamworks to change the shrek 5 animation like we did to paramount to change sonic’s animation?’

‘It’s going to happen again!’

‘Ok, I thought I was the only one who was turned off by the “redesign.” Any reasons given? I’m sure we’ll get the “advancement of animation tools has made leaps and bounds since 2010.’ 

‘Just saw the new animation for shrek 5 just cancel the whole thing at this point.’ 

‘Why does the animation look like an AI interpretation of what Shrek 5 could look like.’ 

‘Shrek has had a style and look that hasn’t changed since 2001. Now he’s in the puss in boots art style, and it triggered everyone’s fight or flight.’

‘How I feel seeing they gave Shrek a new art style and theres nothing i can do to stop them.’

The animation change is largely due to the 14-year gap since the last movie, Shrek Forever After, with technology evolving since then.

The film is set for a December 2026 release and is the first in the main series since the fourth flick in 2010.

Shrek is based on the 1990 picture book from writer and cartoonist William Steig.

The franchise debuted with the 2001 film that introduced viewers to Shrek, an ogre embarking on a quest to rescue Princess Fiona (Diaz).

The movie won the the first Oscar for Best Animated Feature and grossed more than $488 million worldwide.

Shrek 2 followed in 2004 and told the story of Shrek meeting Fiona’s parents.

In 2007, Shrek the Third, followed the ogre’s journey to find the next heir to the throne and 2010’s Shrek Ever After delved into his midlife crisis.

There’s no word yet on the storyline of the fifth film or if it will be made in the same style of animation as the quick teaser that was thrown together to announce Zendaya’s casting.

The first four films earned more than $2.9 billion worldwide and spawned a live-touring show that traveled the globe and earned eight Tony nomination and 12 Drama Desk nods, per ᴅᴇᴀᴅline.

The films Puss in Boots (2011) and its sequel Puss in Boots: The Last Wish, which was Oscar-nominated, are part of the Shrek franchise.

Zendaya’s slate of work has been packed for the last few years.

Last year, Zendaya appeared in Dune: Part Two, as well as Luca Guadagnino’s Challengers.

Her upcoming schedule included Dune: Messiah, the fourth Spider-Man movie and the long awaited third season of HBO’s Euphoria.

She is also planning her wedding to Tom Holland after getting engaged on January 6, 2025.
