John Bishop has confirmed he has quit his chat show after just two series in a surprising move away from television.
The Liverpudlian comedian, 58, revealed he won’t be continuing with his self-тιтled chat show any more as he blamed a ‘congested’ market.
The star admitted there is no space for him in the chat show world as he confessed he could no longer compete with Graham Norton or Jonathan Ross.
Speaking to the Daily Star, John said: ‘I’m not going to do another series of my chat show.
‘It was great to do, but I found that I was competing in a space that was congested.
‘Graham Norton is brilliant at it and Jonathan Ross is brilliant at it. We really don’t need another chat show.’
John Bishop has QUIT his own chat show after just two series as he admitted there is no space for him in a ‘congested’ market amid shock move away from television
The John Bishop Show made its debut in January 2022 and saw him interview the H๏τtest stars in film, TV, sport, music and more in front of a live studio audience.
Co-produced with So TV, the team behind The Graham Norton Show on BBC One, the show also featured stand-up from John and other comics.
It ran for two series until February 2023 and now John has confirmed it will not be making a return.
Guests on the show have included James Nesbitt, Sarah Millican, Rob Brydon, Oti Mabuse, Hugh Bonneville, Olly Murs and Michelle Keegan.
Speaking about the show prior to its airing in 2022, John confessed he wanted to do something different and not follow in the footsteps of Graham or Jonathan.
He said: ‘It’s not going to be a traditional chat show, because Jonathan Ross and Graham Norton are brilliant at what they do.
‘I don’t want to emulate what they do, I want to do what I do – and I’m a stand-up comedian.
‘I love the adrenaline of a ᴅᴇᴀᴅline. I think everybody raises their game because of it. It’s so exciting. The news agenda moves so fast, so doing it all on the day is good. This show is as close to stand-up as you can get.’

It comes after John paid a heart-warming tribute to his wife Melanie on Instagram on last month after the pair enjoyed a two-week holiday in the Caribbean together.
The star has been with his partner for 31 years including an 18-month period of separation in 2000 and 2001.
And the duo looked as loved up as ever during the break in St Lucia, with one pH๏τo showing the pair posing in front of a spectacular bay with the Peтιт Piton mountain in the background.
John wore a fire orange short-sleeved shirt with sky blue shorts, while Melanie sported a low-cut black top and light grey shorts, accessorising her look with two thick bracelets and an anklet on each leg.
He added a caption reading: ‘When you are into your fourth decade with someone and life means that you spend big chunks of time apart, it is sometimes difficult to find the time and place to reconnect properly.
‘Spending the last two weeks in a unique H๏τel that had no tv, no fourth wall and not even a lift despite it being over 500 steps to the beach has been exactly what I and @melbish1 needed.
‘We are lucky to be able to do this and blessed to keep finding each other when we look. Still the one ❤️
‘Huge thank you to Daniel and @chef_elijah_jules who really was exceptional making us a special vegetarian menu every night.’
