While most will recognise her cheerful presence on This Morning – usually alongside co-host and pal Dermot O’Leary she has upped her earning potential with fashion deals, voiceover work and acting in the past.

Alison paid £368,031 in tax meaning which means she would have raked in around £1.84million.

MailOnline has contacted Alison’s representative for comment.

She first became a household name when she appeared on Big Brother in 2002, a decision she later revealed was down to wanting to clear her ‘traumatising debt’.

But the star could never have predicted how her stint on the programme would change her life completely.

Alison was a holiday rep when she appeared on the Channel 4 viewing, proving to be hugely popular.

The media personality revealed she had racked up debts of £3,000 in her normal pre-fame job and recalled believing it was a ‘good idea’ to go on the show and win the £70,000 prize money.

Despite her gamble, Alison’s risk didn’t immediately pay off as she missed out on the winner’s prize fund of £70,000 and instead got expenses of just £30 per day after only lasting two weeks on the show – which was won by her pal Kate Lawler.

In an interview she revealed that she was so cash-strapped in her early fame that she couldn’t pay her mortgage.

The much-loved TV presenter became emotional as she reflected on the struggles at the beginning of her career.

After her stint on Big Brother she took on small presenting roles on This Morning to support herself and son Aidan, now 19.

But in 2007 she said work was hard to come by and had a hard time – as she vowed that if she ever found herself in that position again she’d have no problem ‘getting a job at Tesco’.

She told to The Guardian: ‘There was a time when I couldn’t pay my mortgage, and I was really famous.’

Alison picked up a few shifts at her local hairdressers during this time answering the phones and doing blow dries and told customers who recognised her that she was just ‘helping out’.

She added, while beginning to cry, according to the publication: ‘It’s not all good all of the time. But I was all right, you know?

‘That’s television, it’s fickle and it’s part of my journey, part of my power. I know I’ll be OK, because I’ve been OK before. I’ll go and work at Tesco and people will still love me.’
